Socialists oppose antisemitism absolutely, just as we oppose all racism. What people in Chesterfield should really ask is why this group chose to stand with racists and fascists rather than workers on May Day. Frankly, nobody who does this has any right to lecture the working class about anything.

Supporting Palestinian liberation is consistent with that tradition. The chant “from the river to the sea” is not hateful, as Zionists claim. It expresses the demand that Palestinians should live free from occupation, with equal rights and dignity for all people regardless of religion or ethnicity.

The leader of the group has continued to vilify the one thousand workers who marched, winning sympathy from rotten allies and Reform UK councillors. May Day has always stood for internationalism. Workers everywhere have more in common with each other than with the rich who profit from division.

On Chesterfield May Day, I was proud to march with trade unionists and socialists, celebrating the history of working class struggle and international solidarity. What was disgraceful, however, was seeing a small group of Zionists and Iranian monarchists standing with the far right and fascists.
