The one thing I actually look at is gift cards. Sometimes they have ones for places I go that are marked down. $50 card for $40 - I’ll take it. But, only if I know I’ll use it.

Exactly! Ours was more BISAC based, but I drew on knowledge of DDC (and other taxonomy systems I know) and patron usage. We want things to make sense and be consistent. But also, we can’t define topics based on one group’s belief system.

I had to have patient, calm discussions explaining academic categorizations and show them the DDC charts to prove I wasn’t making things up while maintaining academic integrity. I’m still not sure if they were on board.

There are ways to deal with this so costs aren’t egregiously expensive for students. Not everything is at the library. The library doesn’t provide lab supplies or art supplies. But that doesn’t mean instructors can’t find ways to reduce costs.

If I were teaching that class, I would list a subscription to the streaming service as one of the required books for the semester. I’d also put all required eps and evaluation for them within one month to reduce fees and suggest they pool money and have watch parties. There are ways to do this.

Of our heads in that moment…..it took a while before the guys explained what was going on. And the first thing one of them said to us was “Would you like to see my lizard?” The glare we glared. He actually had an aquarium with a lizard. And then he belatedly realized circumstances. 😂

The control room made a choice by focusing on her. It was a good choice. They know this is some bullshit.

I wonder how well it holds up.

My smartest cat will start by mewing softly to see if I’m awake. Then she will tap me lightly with her paw. This usually just means she wants attention/pets. If I ignore her, she settles in next to me. If she gets louder or more insistent, she really does need something.

Also, always follow Girl Code. Know where your people are and look after them.

I attended a small liberal arts college. I went to frat parties and parties in dorm rooms and used the same rule: if somebody handed me a drink, I casually held onto it until I could discretely empty it behind a couch or into a plant. Or out a window. I never drank any open beverage.

A Tech Services supervisor I once worked with said the best thing about her hearing aids was being able to turn them down or off when people around her at work were being too loud. 😂
