13- Israeli supremacist elites hope this will force Palestinians to leave "voluntarily" and slowly and to continue ignoring under smoke screens the legitimate discussion about the right of return for the Palestinians.

12- Short of finishing the Nakba incomplete work as Benny Morris, another Israeli historian alluded to (by expelling or ethnic cleansing the Palestinians who are non citizens -- about five million of them), Israel has no other option but to deepen a draconian apartheid-like system.

11- Still between the River and the Sea where Israel exercises control as a state or as an occupying power, there are seven million Palestinians, probably equal to the number of Jews in the same area.

10- The Palestinians are now cornered with largely bad options, some of them of their own doing and some the result of ideologically-blinded or corrupt leadership.

9- Since 1948, the Palestinians have tried violence, politics, assimilation, negotiations and they have mostly failed, overpowered by the versatile and a powerful state of Israel and misled or very badly led by their leadership.

8- Segev is surprised that this issue is not the centre of discussion. After all, Jews claim such a right relying on the fact that most jews lived in Palestine 3000 years ago. We are talking about Palestinians who lived there 78 years ago!!

7- The more factual version shows that most of them fled under Zionist pressures and also the normal fear among civilians to avoid battle fields). Regardless of how many left and why, they should have the RIGHT of RETURN to their homeland.

6- Segev is amazed at how the debate is centred on how many Palestinians left in 1948 and why they fled (Israel's official version is that they fled voluntarily after calls by Arab countries.

5- Then two million Palestinians are citizens of Israel while other millions live in diaspora countries either as refugees or as citizens.

2- These likely unwritten orders embodied what Israeli historian Tom Segev called the spirit of the commander or what militia commanders believed to be their mission.

1- This year just marked the 78th anniversary of Nakba, the Catastrophe, which befell the Palestinians when about 750,000 of them were forced to leave or they fled in fear as Zionist militias carried out military operations against them with implicit orders to expel "the Arabs".

3- The Meta Oversight Board has proposed several measures in this decision to enable such tools. Meta and its peers should consider all these interdependent measures seriously and act swiftly to address the underlying problems. The stakes are too high for half measures.

2- Coordinated, industry-wide self-regulation can preserve the delicate balance between free expression and public trust, while reducing harm wherever possible. Companies have many tools from limiting the reach of likely harmful or misleading content all the way to removal.

1- The whole online world is now grappling with how AI content is generated and consumed. It is incumbent upon Meta and the wider tech industry to act faster, and ideally together.

Two wrongs do not make a right. Well, unless they do as Roald Dahl warned us and both Trump and Netanyahu and MBS and … showed us. They proved their rights are just built on many wrongs.

The parents of Hassan, 16, search for him or his body in Gaza. He is one of thousands of people in Gaza whose disappearance casts their families in unceasing grief and legal limbo. Israel blockades Gaza and provides no information to the Palestinians families. www.wired.com/story/hassan...

Hassan Took a Bike Ride. Now He's One of the Thousands Missing in Gaza
In a place denied access to basic forensic technology—and where people disappear into Israeli detention—the fate of thousands remains unknown. One of them is an autistic teenager.

Can we criticize Israeli policies?

Khaled Mansour @k-mansour.bsky.social · 20/01/2026
Again short of massive expulsion of Palestinians with gigantic moral, legal and geopolitical impact, Israel has no options but to deepen its apartheid policies and continue low gear genocide in Gaza and increase the pressure in the West Bank. What they did to UNRWA today is part of this strategy.

The region itself, from Turkey, to Iran, to Saudi Arabia and the UAE are busy with their own national security and how they can fit their regional needs/prerogatives with the US's, and not to antagonize Israel (for one of them how to actually align with Israel).

The eyes of the world (read western and global elites) are all on #davos as European leaders are trying to appease Trump who has been wrecking the already fatigued and crumbling global world order from the UN to Nato, from trade rules to armed intervention, and from Venezuela to Greenland to Gaza.

Israeli radical right wing (not a fringe now) knows that such heinous acts cannot annihilate the Palestinians -- only genocidal acts like what has been happening in Gaza for two years or massive expulsion can bring the ultimate extreme zionist dream to completion.

UNRWA, that extends health, educational and other humanitarian help to millions of Palestinians, has been targeted by the Israeli government for long. Today these occupation authorities (occupation since East Jerusalem was occupied by force in 1967) have started destroying these buildings.

The Israeli government does what it does best, denying the Palestinian people their rights and strangulating international aid to them. Today Israeli bulldozers and officials started demolishing the UNRWA offices in Jerusalem and seizing the land.

“Time buries time …” one of the many gems in a treasure that Omar El Akkad sprinkles throughout his beautiful - if bleak - novel, “American War”, of a post war US that is no longer united in the final years this century. The novel presents a war whose genesis we might be watching unfold now--

It joins movies that dissect the untold depths of suffering, loss and deprivation that the Palestinians have faced and how they have been pushed into a corner with only bad choices. It joins movies like “No Other Land", "The Upshot", "Farha", and "Palestine 36".

To understand the predicament of the Palestinians, watch "All that is left of you" a great movie by Cherine Dabis spanning three generations from 1948 to 2022. It shows the depth of loss, anger, and how the Israeli state could continue the slow annihilation of the Palestinians.
