Today’s school lunch: chicken mayo rice bowl, fish cake soup (eomukguk 어묵국), salad with creamy lemon dressing and colourful cubes of something but not sure what, kimchi, and a strawberry yoghurt drink. Great meal, really delicious! #koreanfood #foodsky #korea #foodie

It is! Real comfort food. They used glass noodles in it which stays a nice texture in the soup

Today’s school lunch: rice, chicken gomtang (chicken noodle soup), grilled meat rolls, spicy chive and sliced onion salad with a tangy dressing, kimchi, and chunks of Korean melon. I’ve been unwell the last few days so this was exactly what I needed! Gomtang ftw! #foodsky #koreanfood #korea #foodie

Today’s school lunch: rice, squid and tofu soup, braised pork and quail eggs, stir fried mustard greens, kimchi, and a rice based cookie slice thing with Oreo pieces in it - was kinda the texture of nougat. Great lunch, I absolutely LOVE quail eggs! #foodsky #foodie #koreanfood #korea

Today’s school lunch: kimbap flavoured fried rice, fish cake soup, tteokbokki (떡볶이), mini seaweed roll (hidden under the mandu), mandu, kimchi, and a peach Coolpis (쿨핏 a yoghurt and fruit drink classic with spicy food). This lunch was AWESOME! Perfection! ❤️ 10/10 #koreanfood #foodsky #foodie #korea

Today’s school lunch: rice, thin-skin dumpling soup, some kinda meat stew thing (menu says LA galbi cube steak but I’m not sure that’s what it was), seasoned aster, kimchi, and an apple and vegetable juice for #earthday As always, a really decent meal! A+ soup! #foodsky #koreanfood #korea #foodie

Today’s school lunch: rice, pork backbone hangover soup, grilled fish with a potato crust, stir fried mushrooms, kimchi, and a sweet soft bread/cookie thing. Gotta say today’s soup was awesome, I absolutely devoured that thing! #foodsky #korea #foodie #koreanfood

Yesterday’s school lunch: rice, acorn jelly and radish soup, chicken and veg stew, crab and mung bean sprout salad, kimchi, and orange slices. Was surprised that the soup was spicier than it looks (not very spicy tho). Another great lunch! #foodsky #koreanfood #korea #foodie

Today’s school lunch: rice, sundae soup (blood sausage) with pig’s head meat, mini kimchi pancakes, kimchi, and a yoghurt drink. Not a huge fan of 순대 but this wasn’t bad - was made with glass noodles through it so was less intense #koreanfood #foodsky #foodie #korea

Today’s school lunch: rice, sujebi soup, bulgogi, kimjaban (김자반 seasoned seaweed flakes), kimchi, and Korean apple. Great lunch! Tho I’m a bit sad I missed yesterday’s Black Day (like an anti Valentine’s Day) lunch of jjajangmyeon ㅠㅠ #korea #koreanfood #foodsky #foodie

Today’s school lunch: rice, dried shrimp soy bean paste soup, stir fried squid, mini hamburger meatball with sweet potato inside, whole radish kimchi, and half a banana (not pictured cos I hate bananas). Today’s school lunch: rice, crab soup (꽃게탕), duck bulgogi, potato pancake, kimchi, and pineapple. Today’s soup wasn’t my favourite but still an overall decent meal. I’m also still impressed the school serves crab in shells to elementary school kids tho! #foodsky #foodie #koreanfood #korea

Partially. But we’ve had our own political insanity to deal with. Last week they officially impeached the president for declaring martial law needlessly. I think most people have been focused on that tbh. But it’s still affecting us, just not hearing as much about it, at least not where I am yet.

Today’s lunch: rice, 5-colour joraengi rice cake soup, stir fried chicken, lettuce with “sour sauce” (?), kimchi, and cherry tomato (not pictured cos I’m not a fan). Not sure what the salad dressing was but it was really good! Menu says 상추새콤무침 if anyone knows more? #foodsky #foodie #koreanfood

Today’s school lunch celebrating Arbor day: rice, spinach doenjang jjigae (된장찌개 soybean paste soup), pollack fish filet with chipotle sauce, stir fried quail egg and mini Vienna sausages, kimchi, and chocolate cake. Loved this meal, really good all-rounder. #foodsky #foodie #koreanfood #korea

I’ve asked teachers what kids pay for these lunches. I believe it’s subsidised and they pay very little, if anything. For teachers, we pay I think about 5,600won per meal which is roughly $3.85US.

Today’s lunch: rice, braised soy sauce chicken (찜닭 jjimdak), seasoned sesame leaves, pickled radish, and Korean apple. The principal told me the soup is an offal soup (내장탕), tho the school menu says different. Struggled with the soup today, but otherwise a good lunch. #koreanfood #foodsky #foodie

Today’s school lunch was Korean Chinese food! 자짱밥 Jajjang rice (black bean sauce with rice), 짬뽕 jjamppong (spicy soup with seafood and veg), 탕수육 tangsuyuk (sweet and sour pork), kimchi and a Pororo yoghurt drink. Pretty great lunch once again! #foodsky #koreanfood #korea #chinesefood

Also found out today there’s a new nutritionist at our elementary school and she’s the one trying new things. This is why the food this year has been so good! Despite the shrimp and fishcakes, the menu calls this a meat-free day, which is a first for my time here.

Today’s school lunch: fishcake skewer udon noodle soup, mala cream puffed rice ball with shrimp inside, pickled radish, kimchi, and orange slices for dessert. How cute are the fishcakes with the cherry blossom pattern in it! Also those shrimp balls were next level! #koreanfood #korea #foodsky

Today’s lunch: rice, I think a style of doenjang jjigae, maybe a pork stew, myeolchi bokkeum (dried mini anchovies with almonds), kimchi, & yoghurt with jam and strawberry. I really tempted fate by wearing a white shirt, I just KNEW there’d be a bunch of red food! Still yum tho! #foodsky #koreanfood

Found some school lunches from earlier in the year 🎉 This was a weirder one. I happened to be at my elementary school on a Wednesday (I’m not usually there then) and I *think* Wednesday is Western food day. It was an odd assortment of foods and a bit of a sad pizza #koreanfood #foodsky

Sadly, no lunch recently. The cafeteria is closed for the holidays. I miss my Korean lunches 😢 I’m now making my work colleagues sad with my apparently depressing Western-person lunches (ie sandwich). It seems to be a topic of conversation, and thankfully I don’t know the details 😬
