Tomorrow's Greg Klein's Old School Rasslin blog is a special one as we look at Junkyard Dog in Mid South. Here is an early match, in Baton Rouge from Oct. 1979.

Today’s Friday Nights at the Coliseum looks at Oct. 1970 in Houston Wrestling and how they booked the city after the babyface hero did not win the “final showdown” or the NWA World Title.

I love this week’s Old School Rasslin’ Talk. Rice University professor Geoff Winningham joined me for the podcast to discuss his coffee-table book on Houston Wrestling, Friday Night in the Coliseum.

I see a blue tidal wave coming, but this poll is wholly sh!t of another degree. One comment noted this is now looking like less a of blue wave and more of a red wedding. Our backlash nation is about to strike again.

Hi guys, if you like to give to the arts, my non-profit could use your help. We are building a new industry in central NY aka the state's Mohawk Valley EDD. We've had great success in 2026 and 2027 could be even better with your help.

It's Wednesday. Get over the hump with some Old School Rasslin'! In blog form, I share some artifacts from the 1959-60 Pinkie George War in San Antonio. In Pod form, George Schire & I form the Nicky Bock Appreciation Society and discuss what wrestlers could learn from Bockwinkel.

It’s Nothing like the Squash Matches from Allentown. Today’s Monday morning muse is about my fascination with San Antonio wrestling. This is an introduction of sorts, because there is so much to discuss I could write a book. In fact, I might.

From the I’m not sayin, I’m just saying category: My aspirational Houston Wrestling annual goals came one step closer today. This still needs a bit of work, but what do you think?

I did not think we would get to this so quickly, but September 1970 offers us a perfect look at the dynamics of running a weekly wrestling town. What do you do when your weekly venue is not available? gregkleinsoldschoolrasslin.substack.com/p/friday-nig...

Apparently my entire body of research is now suspicious fires. This is next door to the Junction, which means USA All-Star took over the SWCW offices (or so they thought) in addition to the TV time & whatever else. I am learning this 1980s San Antonio war was more hostile than I initiallythought.

I stumped even @markcoale.bsky.social here: Did you know Tully Blanchard started his college career at SMU which did not know how to use him. He was third at QB, tried at fullback, DB and punter before transferring to WTSU in 74. That may have allowed him to rassle that summer. Great Joe pic too

In my San Antonio wrestling research I am thinking about the North American cities where wrestling was bilingual. LA, NYC, Miami, Montreal?, South Texas, where else can you all think of having fanbases like that? Article is from 1943 La Prensa with Dizzy Davis picture.

A lot of TIL news today as I research San Antonio wrestling. SA history expert Rudy Gonzales filled in some gaps for me today including the history mystery of Alamo Sports Promotion of 1980, which ran for oppo SWCW in SA + Larado, Corpus & others towns. Rudy said Jose Lotharo promoted these shows

Here are clips f/Dec. 27, 1967, finale at Wrestlethon as state took the land to build a freeway (a project never finished?) I love the stats in the 1967 column: 13 straight weekly sellouts (what year?), 8 years of 2,400 average, 20-year average of about 1,600 weekly fans or about 80,000/year.

I found a bunch of San Antonio articles about Dorothy Livengood and Frank Brown's Wrestlethon, the house that wrestling built, and its opening in 1948 and closing in 1967. Here are the San Antonio Light articles from July 11, 14, and 15 for the July 14, 1948 opening matches.

The 6-7 months in 1995 I had Johnny Rich's ring in my front yard at the Lamar House on the Prattville-Selma Highway (14W) was one of the greatest times of my life. I met my boy Murray the referee there & spent the summer nights working out with as many C-Ala guys as could find me.
