Alright, I'm interested. Let's see you Halloweenify a witch! My idea is making her a ghost or specter would be interesting!

Knowing what you're dealing with can make it easier to bear. I'm glad you were able to take this step forward and get checked out, and hope that it helps you!

I agree with this take, but I know we both have it because we grew up in the DeviantArt days. I wonder if we're becoming products of our age at this point. I ain't gonna stop, but it's worth realizing at times.

What constitutes an OC to you? Is an OC a character you made that you inserted into someone else's universe? Or is it any character that came from your heart and soul? Where I grew up, any character you made was an "OC," regardless of setting. But I wonder if I'm using that wrong.

I'm currently working on a series of western fantasy novels following a group of travelers across the damned continent of Goulinn! The first book is scheduled to release in December, alongside a short story for each of the four protagonists!

If I ever introduce a character who doesn't like The Princess Bride, know that this character is a villain.

Ruby: character-driven fantasy with lots of world building. Ekaf: Romcoms! Preferably something with just a little spice. Tychus: Westerns. And he's mad that we don't make them anymore. Brillante: Morally uncomplicated superhero flicks. The flashier the better!

I was going to comment how weird the lack of magic on this list was, what with me being a magic-obsessed fantasy nerd, but I mean... Guild Wars, Diablo, and Runescape all had magic systems, so I guess that checks out.

This was shockingly difficult to put together. I've been a gamer all my life. Choosing the 9 that had the biggest impacts on me means a lot of stuff got left in the dust. But I think these would be the 9. my9games.net/en

Guild Wars, Team Fortress 2, Jak 2, Left 4 Dead, Monster Hunter World, Diablo 2, Fallout 3, Pokemon Red, Runescape. These were the games that really shaped me.

The fighting game spinoff slaps, though. Get rid of chip kills and it's basically the perfect anime fighting game.

J W Sproul - Fantasy Author @jwsproul.bsky.social · 18/09/2026

The game has a feature where it plays itself for you. I let it sit and play in the background while I do other things. I should never want a game to PLAY ITSELF. I should want to PLAY THE GAME.

Base game: Has a story, things happen in it DLC: Ehhh fuck it grind for 15 hours to upgrade one item and then maybe we'll give you some text. Repeat a dozen times. I genuinely don't know if the DLC has an actual story because this grind is unbearably long and EVERY FIGHT IS A BULLET HELL

J W Sproul - Fantasy Author @jwsproul.bsky.social · 18/09/2026

I've been playing #Granblue Fantasy Relink while laid up with this bad leg. The base game is a lot of fun, but I would like to have a nice discussion in an isolated location with whomever on the dev team thought the expansion should be a grindy nightmare and turn every fight into fucking Touhou.

I fell out of GW2 around End of Dragons. The "climactic" ending of the fire and ice dragons was the biggest letdown the game could have possibly deliverd. Has it improved since? I've been considering revisiting, despite how upset I am that rangers still can't use guns.

SHE'S A LITTLE SNOT AND THAT'S HILARIOUS

010

J W Sproul - Fantasy Author @jwsproul.bsky.social · 16/09/2026

REAL. So many games destroy their own pacing by just cramming in themes from other genres or generally unnecessary fluff.

Seeing AI art/animation on a book feed on Bluesky of all places is... disheartening to say the least. If you call yourself a creator, you won't touch that. If you call yourself a supporter of the arts, you won't support the clowns who do.

I've been saying this since Tears of the Kingdom, which was perhaps the most disappointing sequel game I've ever played. Fun? Yes. Engaging, interesting, or feeling at all like a proper sequel to BotW? Absolutely not.

Tell a creative you love what they do today! We all operate on the energy of this meme.

The "happy cat with waffle" meme, in which the cat is the creative, and the waffle says "literally any amount of positive reinforcement"

Despite how busy I've been, I knocked out the first draft of a few chapter over these last few weekends. Sometimes you just gotta surround yourself with the right energy to work. And if being locked in an artist alley for hours on end with screaming cosplayers works, then it works. #booksky
