Could any polyaromatic hydrocarbons be useful? I've never used, but I've considered using pyrene or anthracene as a solvent.

Why yes, as an inorganic chemist I do own two copies of Strategic Applications of Named Reactions in Organic Synthesis. One purchased for myself, and the other as a graduation gift, because I referenced it so much throughout grad school!
