I've been spending time documenting the continued aid efforts of Kelly Montano of Full Arepas and her organizing partner, Marlen Gonzalez. The two recently started a nonprofit, SELA, to continue sending aid to Venezuela and beyond, including Colombia. Link to full piece below.

Residents in La Guaira have been turning to private companies to rent excavation equipment. Montano is now looking to quickly find the funds to rent the excavation equipment to help find her missing parents, fearing that cleaning crews will soon commence.

Today I caught up with Kelly Montano, owner of Full Arepas in DTLA, who, in the wake of the catastrophic earthquakes in La Guaira, Venezuela, has turned the arepera into a donation center to send aid to those affected by the disaster, the death toll of which has risen to 3,300 as of Sunday 7/5.

The first thing I ever covered was the line to donate blood at the OneBlood near Pulse the morning after the mass shooting. The attack remains a deeply shattering and traumatic event for Orlando's citizens, and they won't let it be forgotten despite the admin's best efforts over the years.
