Very much looking forward to this concert tomorrow, celebrating the composers of the BBC Singers. Particularly excited to be giving two first performances... Route Connections by Helen Neeves, and my own Sing My Name, with texts by Marianne James. www.bbc.co.uk/events/erm3v2

Amongst the many lovely gifts given to me this Christmas, was this... Published in 1905, at a time when our greatest composers worked alongside government to bring the myriad benefits of singing together to every child in the land. May we, 120 years later, bring singing back. HNY

Very happy with this wonderful performance of a new piece, written a couple of months ago, setting a famous and beloved text by John Betjeman. It happens at c. 00:56:45. www.bbc.co.uk/sounds/play/...

Today's edition of Classical Live on Radio 3 will include contemporary carols recorded by the BBC Singers earlier this week. One of them is a new setting of mine, written especially for the BBC Singers, marking the 40th anniversary of the death of Sir John Betjeman.

Such a craftsman. Slightly irritated that he lives nearby so I'm not even the best composer in my postcode! 🤣

It's a blue dress code today, so chance to out this beauty of a tie. A particularly special BBC Singers concert for me because it will include a premiere of a new piece of mine.

It's always a joy to hear from choirs performing my work over the Christmas season, especially when it's older pieces that now have a life of their own. This one in particular pops up all over the place, likely thanks to this beautiful recording from ORA. youtu.be/yEDCvuMbd1E?...

In this, the last day of my 40th year, I'm reflecting on what a great year it's been! The hugest of life events back in May, and lots of music written. Looking forward to 2 premiere performances in December, 1 in January and one in March. Watch this space 😁

I miss Valentina & her kiosk. I miss her positivity & warm-heartedness. Valentina has been undergoing cancer treatment. To cheer her up I turned the Valentina’s Kiosk theme into a song & the legendary BBC Singers have recorded it for her. Here is Valentina’s Song. Conducted by David Hill.

The great thing about a musical, though, is that an actual coherent plot is rarely needed. No doubt folk'll enjoy part 2 even if they haven't seen the first part. 🤣

I've always been a singer first, and composition has been a sideline, but I've written more in the last 3 years than in the previous 30, and 2024 has been nearly non-stop. I'm really excited to explore this new balance and to work with new ensembles to create beautiful new music. 🙂
