In the sunny shallows The fish gather Subsurface silhouettes emerge from below A hopeful heron waits nearby #poem #poetry #naturewriting
Calm water dappled with spots of sun. Hazy reflections of the plants and trees. In the distance, an old concrete bridge. As I type this, a duckling is going for a swim with its mother. Soon I must move though, the geese are encroaching. I hope the hummingbird finds some flowers, the aborvitae isn’t going to work. The blue and white herons wait patiently. The duckling says hi to the white one.

Thistle in full bloom. An aesthetically pleasing round ball of spiky purple. Thistle just starting to bloom. A dash of purple surrounded by small, spikey looking green leaves.

Looking out from the bank of the neighborhood lake. The water is mostly still with small occasional ripples. Trees rise from the left and extend out over the water.

Sunrise obscured By the raging storm Two geese stand Vigilant At the waters edge Unfazed by the deluge #poem #poetry #naturewriting
Picture of a concrete bridge over the spot where creek meets lake. The ground has eroded underneath the concrete slab from years of water rushing over the top during the rains. Trees grow on either side. Unrelated to the poem.

Looking through the trees of a partially wooded area towards the distant shoreline of the lake. The beginnings of a path being worn into the grass emerge.

The clouds came through overnight Weeping across the lane Dry creeks now swell, pool, and flow Domestic ducks, sheltered from the storm Now freed, rush to join their wild brethren Many worms to be found Upon the sodden ground #poem #poetry #nature
Looking out from the bridge over the neighborhood lake after a heavy rain View of the accidental forebay of the neighborhood lake after a heavy rain. The pipe under the bridge has long ago been clogged. Now water runs slowly over the top. The free range domestic ducks search for snacks as seen through the early spring leaves.

Male mallard duck on my porch giving me the stink eye. The feeder has food in it. His ire is unnecessary. The mallard duck couple headed over to the neighbors bushes to relax before heading back to the lake.

My attempts to get a good picture of the “leucistic” ducks in the neighborhood lake. Sadly, I have a strong suspicion that they were dumped by a homeowner who had ducks and recently moved out. #duck #ducks #waterfowl

You can really tell the difference between local pond ducks and those on vacation by how few shits they give about humans nearby. I’m pretty sure this duck just gave me a “what the fuck do you want mate?” look. #ducks
