Interesting conversation about the US midterms. Maybe the current regime gets crushed, and who knows Democrats finally have it in them to do the right thing with a victory. snyder.substack.com/p/where-do-d...

Interesting article, thanks for sharing! Same worry about Reps/White House cheating. Still hopeful Dems will end up winning big, and most importantly: do the right after winning.

In its mad rush to dismantle the state, the current regime has made the US far more vulnerable to epidemics. The same can be said about the damage done to defense and security, that has left the country more vulnerable to terrorist attacks, and future wars. www.nytimes.com/2026/10/08/o...

Yes, the White House sometimes serves as a branch Kremlin press office, which would be humiliating for anyone who had the slightest hint of patriotism or for that matter personal dignity.

"Empire of Grift” by @anneapplebaum.wsocial.eu
Slowly, the Brazilians were learning the same lesson as other American allies around the world: The United States of America is no longer the entity they knew. And American power is no longer deployed solely by trained diplomats and reliable officials, working through state channels. Informal envoys, private companies, online grifters, and hardened ideologues both inside and outside the government matter more. Unlike their predecessors, these people do not talk about spreading democracy, and don’t want to build long-term relationships. They don’t care about America’s reputation. They are deploying the tools of American diplomacy and government for their own purposes, to promote their own business interests or their own ideological goals, because, suddenly, they can.

Like senator Ossoff said, he doesn't want to do the job. He probably never did. It just seemed to be an easy way to make money, and get his ugly face on TV (which, let's admit, most of the time he does). Evil as they were, Hitler and Stalin at least some ideology, he just has poor impulse control.

You make a valid point, but what specific EU directive(s) make the sale of crooked cucumbers or other "ill-formed" vegetables illegal? Not to be contrarian, but such regulations are often mentioned (generally by euro-sceptics), and I'm not sure these actually exist.

He's a mob boss, who just wants to be a dictator like Putin, Xi, Erdogan etc. Which presumably is why the army will be called on to "defend" the midterm. Question is why the rest of his party lacks the spine to stop him.

Thank you! It's all "wrong" according to the rules one learns in photography classes. As photographer, there are moments when rules are there only to be broken. This is one of those photos that breaks all the rules, and is still nice enough.

Tilt This photo is all wrong. It's out of focus, it's at an angle instead of horizontal, and it's grainy. But I still like it, and I think it's a good photo because of the light and the colours. Feel free to comment.
