Added past lead sampling to the interactive, think it helps add context

I added a side-by-side comparison to this prototype I'm working on that shows how much lead is in a water system

Radial charts aren't popular, but I think they do a good job of showing how things distribute across a cycle

I drew a cup of water using a particle system. Don't think I'm there yet, but the general idea is that more orange = more lead

A while back, I made a map of detention facility populations over time A huge part of the story was showing how the populations changed over time, and it was nice to work out that interaction cuz it adds a lot of context

something i've noticed in sci-fi films is how common it is to see data viz used as a tool how the data viz looks and works is usually abstract and superficial to the plot, but its cool to see it used to get to a solution/understand a situation

What type of empathy can we foster over a screen? As bystanders, we have access to the videos and pics of those actively going through climate disasters - like bad air quality. What if we could try to mimic their breathing conditions through other media? Here's my latest #dataviz #programming

Harvest calendars have always been a particularly useful chart for me, so I finally made one of my own This one is for citrus, and it shows how different varieties of citrus have different weather tolerances. Not exactly comprehensive, but a decent start #dataviz #foodscience

Since the 80s, I feel like America has been on the fence between eating refined sugar vs. eating corn syrup as our primary sweetener. Both have their pros and cons but 80+ pounds a year was a surprising stat to read #dataviz

I looked up the numbers and have to say that phones use a relatively small amount of energy compared to other devices that do the same thing, namely laptops and tablets #dataviz

Made these radar charts on fish liver vs foie gras as part of a larger blog post. Fish liver is a lot different than other types of liver because it also has a parallel goal of storing fat (alongside helping the metabolism), so it ends up storing more fat-soluble vitamins #dataviz

I personally am mixed on illustration in maps; it helps make finding important info easier but I can’t help but get distracted when I’m looking at them. This time spiral is a good example of this tension. I like it more than I don't, but its a balance #dataviz

Rarely does a brand have as much consistency as the root vegetable. I feel like all of them - carrots, potatoes, beets - all give off a certain vibe of hardiness and sturdiness and being good for a hearty stew Really appropriate for autumn #dataviz

Apparently, amino acids can change during chemical processes like fermentation. I took an example of milk and yogurt, and while the two breakdowns are very similar, you can see slight variations in some amounts (eg glutamic acid, leucine, etc) #dataviz

When looking at the difference between the land use for cashews vs other nuts, a few answers come to mind - the cashew tree is a large spreading tree that requires a lot of spacing - cashew demand skyrocketed in the 1990s - production increased in a few countries, from Vietnam to Ghana #dataviz

A sweetener is a sweetener, so there's only so much nutrition you can expect to receive from a serving Still, it's safe to say that maple syrup beats the others in offering at least some kind of benefit... #dataviz

Wrote a blog on the many differences between data centers, one of which is the amount of electricity used for cooling It's defined by a metric called PUE, and apparently, the lower the PUE (eg the lower the cooling costs), the better the data center #dataviz

Made a voronoi chart of liver proteins. Something i learned; a lot of livers are high in glutamic acid; glutamate is central in metabolism, and the liver is the body’s nitrogen-processing factory When amino acids are broken down, their nitrogen forms glutamate #dataviz

A series of radar charts comparing the vitamins offered in plant milks, and how much of your daily recommended intake is met by 100g It looks like oat milk offers the least, and the other three are optimized for different things. Personally, I've switched over to almond milk mostly #dataviz

Syrups are basically liquid sugar, so I charted the sugar-water ratio to visualize how it differs across different plant/tree species. It's not a comprehensive list, but it's something that's helping me find a better alternative to white sugar because...idk, it's white sugar. #dataviz

I compared eel and salmon together for a proof-of-concept of these flowcharts. The two have a lot in common - they're both high in water, for example - but the differences are there, if not nuanced. No surprise to anyone that eel is a little fattier #dataviz

Not all salmon is created equally, as demonstrated by these radar charts. I made them a few years back, and while I would change a few things, still interesting to see. What the hell is going on with sockeye salmon? #dataviz

A treemap isn't the clearest way to compare values with each other, but it is fun way to look at data. here are all the amino acids found in raw pink salmon, and you can see the list is pretty distributed #dataviz

This isn't as comprehensive of a list as it probably should be, but the trend is suggesting that liver has more vitamins than other parts of the body. and, biologically , we know that's true

Is bacon a protein? This is a metaphorical discussion more than a scientific one, but that idea is simple; some animal products are fats, some are proteins. No one would consider a butter sandwich to be valid...but where does the line actually begin and end? Is a BLT a valid sandwich? #dataviz
Graphic titled “Not All Animal Foods Act Like Protein.” Subtitle: “A comparison of protein-dominant and fat-dominant foods based on how they actually behave in the kitchen.”

A Venn diagram with two overlapping circles. The left circle is labeled “Protein-dominant,” the right circle “Fat-dominant.”

Protein-dominant foods (left circle): chicken breast, shrimp, cod, turkey breast, tilapia, eggs, tofu, lentils, tempeh, and sirloin tip.

Fat-dominant foods (right circle): butter (listed twice), tallow, foie gras, lard, duck fat, and pork fatback.

Foods in the overlapping middle (both protein- and fat-dominant characteristics): chicharron, chicken feet, bacon, pork belly, chicken skin, paneer, pig feet, and sausage.
