Exactly, and the gov. would legit prefer robots over foreigners. Oh we don't have enough ppl to take care of our elderly? Well we don't have to pay robots. If we let foreigners in we'd have to like pay pensions (which we're running out of) and give them services. Plus they bring their foreignness.

Oh also should mention that it's notoriously difficult to fire people in Japan. Wages are stagnant, but no one's losing jobs because of this tech there. If anything, they'll hire people to use the robot because the older people don't know how to and they aren't going to learn.

People need to realize that Japan still has a pretty isolationist mindset overall, and they're also one of the lowest voting populations in the (developed) world. They see our anger at Elon and our reasons for leaving as "American problems" or "American politics".

Also frankly, they're not feeling the physical effects from AI that we do. No one is building data centers in their neighborhoods. Their electricity bills aren't going up because of this. The yen's value is hella low, everything is more expensive, no one is getting paid more.
