I've got an open ended puzzle for everyone. See if you can interpret it. There is a right answer, but alternate interpretations are valid and welcome.

If you would like to be added to a list to get notifications as these come out, please let me know. Below is a portion of the new chapter.
The connection to the 21st line is culturally bland for the amount of traffic it gets. It is hard to question the existence of the empty roads since they are synonymous with the overgrown city itself, but even the slightest consideration creates wonder and confusion around why they would span with such width. To consider car congestion needing 3 lanes for a single direction is incomprehensible when put in contrast to the current occasional bikes and rare trolley that now use them.

Surrounding the crossroads, makeshift booths occupy the overgrown concrete fields on the corners of the intersection. These are always shifting due to lack of a consistent consumer base. One shop has become a staple of the area; aptly named “21st Suppliers” which collects an assortment of rare supplies that are considered waste from both the Consensus and (to a much higher degree) the CapDems.

The connection time is 2 minutes, so there is no time to browse the shops. We sit down on the dry grass to wait. After a moment, Samuel looks at me and asks “Does it ever get annoying that people always expect you to be someone different?”

“What do you mean?”

“Well, with some of my friends, I feel like I need to play a part. I’m not always interested in their stuff, but I listen anyway because I like it when they do that to me. They don’t always though, and that seems unfair when that happens.” He looks back at me, “For older people it seems more unfair. You seem to be playing a part more often than I would because others tend not to care that you want to be listened to. No one really seems to see you and you just play a part for them. Or… are you playing a part with me too?”

Here is a passage, that I hope does the story justice. If you think it's interesting, please consider giving the chapters above a read.
<Passage describing the surroundings which continues to...>
"Yashim? Oh! You mean the urban nomad that helps out with education?"
"He didn't seem to be an urban nomad. We're talking about the same person right?"
"Asian, elderly, often lost in thought?"
"Yeah. That is a fitting description."
"Well the urban nomads here have access to most of the resources that everyone else does. So many, like Yashim, choose the lifestyle for a variety of reasons. If I remember right, he does it so he can feel more genuine. He rejected stable living quarters in the past on the grounds that he feels confined in them."
There are a lot of references in that statement that do not make sense. "Universal access to resources"? "Feeling confined by a house"? But one point was more pressing and confusing than the others "What do you mean 'rejected stable living quarters'?" It's basic knowledge that the principle of society is built on the premise that property ownership is a virtue. Being able to exchange goods for necessities is the building blocks of mercantile trade, which is what gives money meaning, and without the concept of money, you can't have debt which is what society uses to justify force and legal morality via law. Without the concept of working to ownership (especially home ownership at the bare minimum), nothing else makes sense. Even children understand the basic need for shelter and regulated temperatures.
"He didn't want one when a room was offered. There are others if he still wants one, but that doesn't seem likely." The entire concept is inconceivable. This community can't function. I'm misunderstanding it. I must be.
"Can I get a room?"
"If you want to stay, absolutely. If you are just staying for a little bit, we can provide some temporary residency. It is going to be nice for the next couple of days so it's up to you if you would rather sleep in the open or not."

Defining Success
Up until this point, economics has not been a focus. The reason for this is simple: currency - in relation to the axioms of life that have been assumed - is not an influential force but simply another civil institution. While it is often necessary to be used as a standard metric surpassing geographical and resource diversification, wealth has no direct relation to the preservation of the existential self nor community consciousness. In this way, the economy is a farcical illusion of material empowerment with no ideological differences from the legacies it seeks to empower. Thus, treating fiscal gain as an exceptional form of success will be rejected.
Instead the discussion of success - within current culture - will reflect the core of what people utilize money, power, fame, influence, or any other cultural currency for: the institutionalization of their own legacy often in spite of everyone else’s. Striving for this success is (I hope at this point) obviously flawed. If success is promoted culturally as a virtue, all constructed consent will be skewed to reflect the empowered legacies above all. Since promotion of one’s own legacy is axiomatic for life and will exist regardless of promotion, it is therefore a failure of any community to empower the fascistic desire to exclusively honor a single one. There is only one clear alternative for those that promote radical civility: to civilly redefine success to be “the amount that one increases normality within the greatest conversation imaginable”.

I made a meme. Maybe someone can do it better than I could.
Top picture. A small group of white chess pieces holding back a grossly over stacked black team. "How Trump supports would have you believe politics is"

Bottom picture: a small group of well organized white pieces about to usurp a pawn in the king's spot. The opposing black team is a random assortment of pieces that are disorganized but some are holding the line against the white pawns. This team includes a raspberry and a gold fish as well as some checker pieces. There is a panda sitting to the side of the board not participating. "How politics actually is".

I had a thought:

I believe that people like Rush Limbaugh and Alex Jones have started a new era of epistemology in the world. Essentially they believe that there is a hidden truth that they know which most people are simply too dumb to understand so they make up lies to augment the truth with something that is equally meaningful. It seems to be the same way that many people view the interpretations of God or Santa Clause: lies that tell a truth that MUST be understood unless the world falls apart.

They don't see reality as something that can be engaged with on an honest level because doing so would "miss the point".

If this is true and people who are convinced by this have normalized this method of communication, then people who see the world through empiricism and tests and data are the odd ones. The books we learn from must have a narrative wrapped in the narrative about something that cannot be understood other than to lie about it. So they see things like slavery as hyperbole that didn't actually happen. They see global warming as an overinflated lie. They see all of this as just as real as "the frogs are making you gay".

Does this make sense?

promotion of my story #QuiaSumCogito - snippet from chapter 5. If you have any interest in reading more, please comment and I'll send a link to the current chapters.
Then – without warning – reality readjusts as if dropping a mask. The light is still the same, but the walls – previously adorned with new paint underneath instructions, plaques, and memorabilia – shift to the unimpressive and standard appearance seen everywhere else on campus. I stop for a moment trying to understand what just happened and take a few steps back. All the aesthetics and charm return for a moment until I walk forward again. Roger is no longer leading but waiting.
"You're still using the overlay?" I nod still confused at what happened. "I always forget about that. In this area we have no wireless," he points to the walls where I notice a small mesh of wires which I thought was just a more grey tinge of paint. "It's a Faraday Cage. Even if the Consensus was able to hack our system, they can't know what happens here."

I make the 3 minute walk to the 400s building. The demographics of the community can be seen fairly quickly by their presentation. The children (those distinguishable from fully realized adults) all head to the kindergartens, where they will learn what they need to function in their future roles. The service workers (those that are part of the supply chain to ensure that we have stability) tend to dress more practically since their close proximity to nature tends to soil and stain, causing more professional attire and aesthetically pleasing investments to be ruined. Most of this group will come from the deal we make with the Consensus, so they tend to be mistrusted since it's often a bit hard to tell without stalking their metadata if they are loyal. Of course there is the Overview Department which specializes in vetting out the militant anarchists, but – thinking specifically of Zenth and Harriett (some friends that work on that effort) – there is always flaws in the human element of the manual approval process due to the need to respect privacy making it far from foolproof. The rest of us laborers ensure that our attire fits our status. We can't afford the fabrics of the oberster bürgers (or obürgs for short) who keep the machines running, devise new methods of progress, and manage the staff; but we ensure their ideas get carried out by keeping the system grinding along once the ideas are implemented.

here is one portion: a few things... CapDems are the government, everyone in the Consensus (the anarchist group) hates them and thinks they are fascist (because they are). CoDaS is the AI and Kyle (who is the first person [flawed] narrator) has been coming to doubt.

Life is a paradox: we desire order in an infinitely complex reality. Most choose to value delusional comfort rather than continuous existential conflict so it makes sense that we will disagree on what "works best". Respect each other, even in disagreement, because that's the best we have to offer.

I had an idea for a poem. This likely isn't the finished version
Synthesis

It is the future while I am the past,

From your perspective, I’m good, I’m order, I’m life, I’m all that is known, I’m all that you depend on. I’m also a lie. Everyone knows me, understands me, relies on my existence, but I’m a lie. In truth I don’t exist, and neither does it, not yet anyway.

It is the future while I am the past.

From your perspective, it’s fear, it’s chaos, it’s death. It’s all that is unknown, it’s all that you defend against. It’s also the truth. No one knows it, they prepare against it, knowing it’s existence is inevitable, but it’s the truth. In lies it doesn’t exist, and so do I, and that’s how it has to be.

It is the future while I am the past.

Eventually I will overtake it, the future will become realized in a single moment and the lies will frame reality forcing the truth to dissolve into order. This is what your perception does. It kills the god of possibilities and forces it to conform to your delusions. This is what it is to live. This is reality.
