Once a weirdo, always always a weirdo

If aliens arrived tomorrow, what’s the first thing you’d ask them? Of all the planets in all the solar systems in all the galaxies in the universe, why would you choose this one? Because, you know, we’re doing poorly. We are forever in conflict. We can’t agree on movie franchises, so it’s not surprising we have come to these ends. Why would you want inflict on the rest of the universe?

I walked 14 miles today in a quest to walk 22. My big walk was cut short by 7 miles after 14. I got pretty sick at mile 7 and by mile 10, I had zero energy left.Next year, I will try again. I have never walked 14 miles before, so there’s that. Disappointed but not discouraged. Maybe my prep was bad. Perhaps only doing 12 last week was not enough, and that 2 extra miles might have helped. The backpack should have weighed more during my training. I went from around 6 to 20 pounds.

I will posting my daily thoughts and progress leading up to October 6th. This is the first entry. The big walk is coming up, and I am feeling more or less ready. One small thing I am trying to work out is my pace. I am currently walking too fast to be comfortable over twenty-one miles and I am working on that. I was exhausted after my last long walk, but I should not have pushed through in one go without a break. Tomorrow is my final long effort and then I can rest, keeping stretched out until next Tuesday.

Then down my allaey and around a quarter of my block. From those small beginnings, I have increaed my fitness to include the ability to cover miles and miles on my near daily jaunts. Now I am ready to turn those miles to conquer an even greater challenge. On October 6th I will be walking the Poudre River Trail, from Windsor to Greeley, Colorado.
