Daniel Cameron reach / influence apparently didn't extend very far from his home of Hardin County. With the Trump nomination, Andy Barr pretty handily swept up just about everywhere else -- even Fayette County which normally is more politically similar to Jefferson County.

Very early county shading of where Ed Gallrein beat Thomas Massie in the Republican primary. Massie's farm is in Lewis County -- a county that is one of the most sparsely populated counties in a very rural state. Also his biggest base of support, % wise.

Charlotte incoming…I’m leaning heavily on the “reside in” clause as she is an NC dog at heart.

Without a lot of major problems due to the snowstorm in Louisville, people were able to enjoy the snow rather than dread it. (Well everyone except dramatic children who didn’t want to finish their shoveling chores.)

Jody Meiman, Louisville’s emergency manager, played tour guide and pointed out various places where we weren’t allowed to get out due to safety but he pointed out where people were impacted.

Workers are out here directing ditches of oily water into small reservoirs to pump out. They’ve collected insane amounts of gallons of contaminated water and treated it so far. (Think of it like a French drain / sump pump system in your basement.)

Last night, 64-year-old Denise Lamont attended the first protest of her life. She said watching the video of Good’s death in Minneapolis “changed her” and the quick federal defense of the ICE agent angered her. She marched in Louisville, KY with a piece of cardboard taped to a soup spoon.

And yes because I’m a reporter — I’m bringing the receipt. I’m not rich, I have a public radio salary after all, but it’s the least I could do. And I will carry that PRE tote bag around proudly.

Kentucky has applied for FEMA assistance after the outbreak of roughly half a dozen tornados last weekend. PA = public assistance and reimburses local governments, IA = FEMA grants to households to help replace items and rebuild, etc.

This is a radar scan that measures rotation. Just a minute ago, it shows a line of storms that looks brief but is headed right for the Somerset/London areas, the same areas that were hit hard Friday night. **I'M NOT A METEOROLOGIST***

In this segment, you’ll hear part of the conversation I had with Jake Cutchens as the sun set yesterday on a decimated neighborhood. “This is Appalachia’s heart right here,” he said, talking about the people that helped them sort debris throughout the day. www.npr.org/2025/05/19/n...

A little ironic considering Zoeller makes pumps. Specifically, the sump pumps that will be running in most of our basements this week.

I thought this hearing might have more specific details or conversation about money for flood recovery, but honestly it was just vibes. Two senators riffing on what they've heard and seen in eastern KY after recent severe flooding.

Flood cleanup and recovery in Perry County, KY today as weather warmed a bit and roads improve. Still no FEMA disaster declaration. Multiple people told me today: “Look around. If this isn’t a disaster I don’t know what is.”

A Head Start program in Louisville at the Family and Children's Place is having trouble accessing their federal funding portal. "...we are having trouble accessing the portal and have had trouble all day." But Q/A sheet from OMB says Head Start should not be frozen by the new directive.

Each year a bill gets filed to reverse this and put Kentucky's law on black lung diagnosis eligibility in line just about all the other states. It never goes anywhere. That bill was just filed again yesterday by Ashley Tackett Lafferty, the only D state house legislator left in eastern KY.

As the KY legislative season kicks off, J Hodgson filed a bill that proposes creating a state-sponsored disaster-response volunteer corps a la national guard. A really interesting idea...do any other states have something like this currently going?
