More Portland retro game expo. Altair … also got hands on a TRS-80 for the first time.

Finally got around to getting a copy of this classic. Just hitting it with some iso and deoxit ;) Game on!

Not a retro PC or game console but fun Arduino based project; the hot-side control panel for my home brewery. Two burners, 3 pumps, 3 temp sensors and two flow meters integrated on custom firmware.

I remember seeing the cover in the video store as a little kid. My parents of course wouldn’t let me watch it (Alien was ok though, go figure). Anyway, I’m sure my mom wrote this off as typical misogynistic slasher … hell as I would too looking at how it was marketed. But I have to watch it now 😂

Another machine resurrected! This is an early Pentium 90. I had to replace the RTC module on this board with @necroware.bsky.social’s replacement kit. I’m a complete noob at surface mount soldering but, amazingly, I got it working!

So, I’m planning on some new NES mod posts and regular programming soon, but in the meantime, grats to the citizens of Hungary for a new beginning! I hope we can do the same here in the US.

Trans rights are human rights. This Transgender Day of Visibility, we honor the resilience of transgender and nonbinary Americans and celebrate their incredible courage.

Happy International Transgender Day of Visibility! We're everywhere and we're cool. Here's the trans pride flag 🏳️‍⚧️ on a mid-90s Pentium running DOS.

Well yes, but I rarely use it. Working drives, easy. Disks not riddled with bad sectors, hard.

Interestingly, the valid range is 50 years; 1980-2030. Seems rather arbitrary.

Just discovered the max year on my retro PC bios. I have some hacking to do. Well, I have a couple years to figure it out 😉

New toy ;) This modern, open source, ISA card was primarily designed to emulate a Gravis Ultrasound card. But it can also emulate an optical drive via USB. My 486 retro PC build is space constrained so an emulated CDROM is perfect! I’ll likely leave my AWE64 card in for primary sound.

Yes, awe64 but I also have a RetroGus on the way; may keep both in the system. Video is a Cirrus Logic 5428 VLB. Not the best card of the era but I’m focused mostly on DOS/win3.1 games, so should suffice.

Linux floppy distro wow! I think my first Linux box was a P90. By that time Slackware was common on optical.

The, more or less, completed build of a 486 DX2 66 retro gaming PC. This is the era I did most of my gaming in as a teen. Will be posting some YouTube videos on the build soon.

Oh h*ll yeah, it works! Installed the NESRGB mod and it looks amazing! This was a challenging mod for me to install, but so worth it. I now have both component and RGB/SCART out of an otherwise original NES.

Yes, it captures raw magnetic ‘flux’ whereas a low level copy with a traditional drive controller using a tool like disk dump does a logical sector level copy.

110

Justine L. Alexandra 🏳️‍⚧️ @justine76.bsky.social · 15/02/2026

Yeah, indeed this device is reputed to circumvent old school copy protection techniques … well disk copy protections at least. Prolly not going to help with a keyword lookup from the instruction manual 😂

Excited to play with this. It’s a Kyroflux board intended to produce very low level backup/restores of floppy disks (platform independent). You’ll see Kyroflux images on the Internet Archive occasionally.

Next project. Mod the NES for RGB/SCART video out! This mod (NESRGB) uses the original PPU from the Nintendo board so retains authenticity.

I’m in a Seattle burb, sitting outside with an adult beverage. An M80 explodes on every Seahawks score. A bit of a hunger games vibe for my taste but would be fun for the city if we won.

Ok, this was fun ;) Follow-up to a previous post where I was prototyping some LEDs for installation in a NES shell. All internally wired, no additional power required. Tapped the video rail so I can detect console state. Shoutout to @cefk.bsky.social for reminding me of Cylons.

Different from the Genesis port but sure it’s still fun. There were many platform variants on this game.

Ok retro gamers, make sure you always ‘physically’ check the battery in any used cart you acquire. This Starflight cart still tested fine when saving games, but it was a time bomb. Minor corrosion on board. Saved it before it was too late!

A one-day slowdown is irritating. A one-month slump is terrifying. With support for abolishing ICE growing and a bipartisan backlash prompting Trump to at least feign a more conciliatory approach in Minnesota, this is the moment to exert pressure. bit.ly/4aoo0an

A personal note on this game. I was a teenager when it was released. A friend and I couldn’t afford to buy it so we just kept extending our rental (yep, that was a thing) till we beat it; an extended weekend of brutal marathon if I recall ;) Good times.

Who is else had a SMS? This Sega Master System controller arrived completely dead; no buttons working. Narrowed the issue down to a shorted ground wire somewhere in the cable. Soldered on a new 9-pin cable and viola, works!
