First-time homebuyers could get as much as $50,00o for a down payment on a house, under a draft bill to be introduced Wednesday by Sen. Jeff Merkley (D-Ore.) and cosponsored by Sen. Ron Wyden (D-Ore.).
Why it matters: It's a big number and comes as the real estate market is beset by multiple woes, including rising mortgage rates pricing buyers out of the market.
Zoom out: Congress passed a landmark bipartisan housing bill earlier this year. But that law came with no dollars attached and was mostly focused on encouraging more home building.

And let's not forget her role in the Free Angela Davis movement, when Nixon and J. Edgar Hoover conspired to murder her when many other liberals wouldn't come close.
Look, we're in a broad multi-class fight against fascism, and one that demands us to be clear-eyed and sober. There are no saints here, and I don't believe in sinners: there are just people, fallible, human, at times prone to error. And when that happens, make no excuses: own it, apologize, and work like hell to ensure it don't happen again. And keep on fighting."
