Since we are talking ghibli right now, here are some handmade ghibli styled LotR backgrounds I made a few years ago.

It’s officially Gouaching time! Here are some Levitan value studies and a color one for week 1 of @justindonaldson.bsky.social ‘s 2.0 course 🙌 I lost my value finder so I used my oil paint value stick based on the one from Casey’s Oil Painter’s Handbook. #gouache #values

Two monochromatic studies in gouache of Isaac Levitan’s paintings, Rural View and Village Road.

A gouache study in color of Isaac Levitan’s paintings, Just Before Evening Falls.

Put together a dry gouache palette! As much as I love plein air painting with oil, I want to do it with gouache as well and this is a more portable setup (plus the painting study dries faster 😅) I’m ready for @justindonaldson.bsky.social ‘s Gouache 2.0 Course 😌🙌

A portable paint palette. 22 out of the 26 half-pans are filled with gouache paint of various colors that has semi-dried.

We work on techniques for painting large with gouache, and find how we can bring those learnings back into our smaller paintings to end up with more confidence.

We work further on incorporating brilliant water colour techniques and applying them to a gouache painting, getting thicker and thicker as we go - Gouache has a WIDE range of applications and we can utilize them all

This eight week course is designed to take your gouache skills to the next level! In this course we work through what it takes to accurately predict the dreaded value shift + saturation shift that occurs as gouache dries so that you can take your paintings to the next level

Nice!! I love the feeling of the water! If you’re looking for some feedback I’d definitely put some time into the way the trees interact with the ground. Grounding them properly will help them feel less and less like they are floating.
