drawabox @justdrawabox.bsky.social · 11/02/2025Don't take promises for granted. Be careful, be aware, and if you can - partner with artists to build your projects so that you're not left worrying which load-bearing licenses of yours are made of iron, and which are made of paper. 7/7 020
drawabox @justdrawabox.bsky.social · 11/02/2025But if at the end of the day they can hide behind their ToS to shield themselves from the responsibility of honouring their promises, then as Starla asks in her video: What the heck are you paying for? 6/ 110
drawabox @justdrawabox.bsky.social · 11/02/2025Creative projects involve a lot of assets, and it's very common for some of them to be sourced from royalty free libraries. It's really enticing to leave things up to another company, and to trust in their promises. 5/ 110
drawabox @justdrawabox.bsky.social · 11/02/2025I myself have had incidents where background music for which I'd purchased a royalty free license caused videos to receive copyright claims against them years later - all because the music had changed hands to some other party that thought it could make a quick buck. 4/ 110
drawabox @justdrawabox.bsky.social · 11/02/2025I just watched a video from @handmadealphas.bsky.social about how customers of one such service, Creative Fabrica, got sued for using assets from that service that included commercial licensing. 3/ www.youtube.com/watch?v=yGoa...youtube.comSellers SUED for Using Creative Fabrica Assets?YouTube video by Starla Moore 120
drawabox @justdrawabox.bsky.social · 11/02/2025A lot of those services allow third parties to sell through them, which immediately makes the situation dicey. After all, if the service doesn't own the license they're passing onto you, how can they confirm that each and every third party seller does? 2/ 110
drawabox @justdrawabox.bsky.social · 11/02/2025There are a lot of services out there that provide assets - graphics, sound effects, background music, etc. - royalty free based on a subscription service for use in commercial projects. Or at least, that's what they promise, but whether that's true is a different story. 1/ 180

drawabox @justdrawabox.bsky.social · 19/02/2024We also made a new Unsolicited Advice comic (although much rougher than it usually is) addressing the core purpose of the challenge, as something to help students develop the discipline to tackle any seemingly overwhelming task by breaking it down into smaller steps.drawabox.comDrawabox.com | Uncomfortable's Unsolicited Advice | How is the 250 Box Challenge Supposed to Help Me?How is the 250 Box Challenge Supposed to Help Me? 011
drawabox @justdrawabox.bsky.social · 19/02/2024Just dropped the new video for the 250 box challenge. Technically there's three, but this one gives an overview of why we think it's so important, why it doesn't fit into our definition of "grinding", and so forth.youtu.beDrawabox: The 250 Box ChallengeThe reading for this video is available at https://drawabox.com/lesson/250boxes.
