For the record, all drums in Jupiter Kirk are actually played by me on an electronic drum kit ; I then adjust them with MIDI and use good samples (I've been very much into what Ugritone used to do.) I like to keep my own sound as organic as possible - but I definitely appreciate drum machines.

I'll keep trying my hardest to make my own drums sound as real as possible, but this here is something I have really enjoyed in my deep dive into goth music. It's almost relieving.

I will always have a soft spot for this guy here

Merton Dingle from the tv show Big wolf on Campus. Gothic teenager wearing black, with black spiky here, sitting at a computer on an elaborately decorated wooden desk with a fancy wooden chair covered in red velvet

And to top it off I'm realizing that they are quite close to where I live, and I'm seeing several flyers for past shows in town, the latest one dated from a year ago. This is incredible. I'm definitely going to try and get in touch with them !

Nothing beats the excitement of doing deep dives into a genre and discovering that bands close to you have been playing it for years. I just became aware of Martyr Whore, a french deathrock band that plays an almost perfect rendition of early Christian Death martyrwhore.bandcamp.com/track/freezi...

One of my other projects that you all might like though is Maudit Coeur ! It's a more traditional post-punk thing, more akin to The Cure, but with humoristic and sarcastic french lyrics. A fun little side project where I explore another side of goth music. I'll fully develop this one in 2025.

Made a thread with all of my work on my personal account, for Bandcamp friday, if you're also into non-goth stuff, from goregrind to surf music.

Following for the answers. Lyrics are the hardest part by far. Personally I do a bunch of automatic writing about a subject and just pick out sentences that sound right. But it's a long and tedious process.

Same thing with drag. La Grande Illusion is a 1937 movie about prisoners of war and there's several scenes of them literally having a drag show for entertainment in the camp. 1937. Not to mention a lot of 1920s fashion.

The second I post about how even giving 1€ to a band through bandcamp helps us more than any Spotify stream, I get a notification that someone just bought my entire discography. (You know who you are, thank you so much !) Thanks a lot bluesky 🖤.

even giving a single $ or € through bandcamp helps a ton more than streaming on Spotify. I'm personally super thankful of everyone who does.

I just love how they keep bringing literally all of the vampire lore in the show. It's like a giant game of Vampire : The Masquerade played only by comedians.
