I've visited a couple times. Stunning country. Grandmother born and lived in Belfast until immigrating to Canada. UK does actually hold a very close place in my heart. Lived there for 5 years growing up

I live a couple hours from it. Have family stationed at Comox. I go to Van Island periodically. Long history of Canadian family + living in the US. I used to live in England too, best place I ever lived tbh.

You guys were pretty good during the Battle of Britain and surrounding conflicts. Not sure what happened since then. My entire extended family flies/flown with the CAD Air Force. They were better at drinking too I guess.

Distance is irrelevant. Doesn't matter if it was across the world, or near port. Distance has, quite literally, never mattered in naval combat. That's actually the entire point of a navy - force projection. Not being armed is not the prerogative of the US govt. Don't suck at war I guess.

Vessels are subject only to their own laws, but doesn't protect them from how other vessels act towards them. In a "conflict" the same rules apply to vessels. Assume you could be attacked. Especially assume that if your country is fighting another country. Triple assume that if a sub is near.

I'm going to save you the embarrassment here. I have a degree in international use of force. There is no universally accepted "Declaration of War" in the UN or any other unified body, nor is it usually done any longer. Regardless, authority resides in the president to initiate conflict.

Warships are sovereign territory of the nation they represent. That nation is being attacked. It's absolutely logical to assume your warship is fair game. For it to be a "lawful target" it must also be a "military objective." Based on events, it clearly is. War does not need to be declared

Like, do you know that the standing protocol for navy war ships who don't want to be sunk in conflict do? They go to neutral port and essentially sit it out under protection of a neutral government. Putting to sea means you accept the consequences of the vessel you are on. Full stop. Period.

US is clearly looking to exercise maximum force across all domains, perhaps as an example. Regardless of the reasons, maybe factor that in when you decide to put to sea on a warship. And if you choose to sail, don't cry if you get MK48'd to the bottom of the sea. Pretty simple.

People are just being introduced to the mission of an attack sub, which is to kill quietly, quickly, and to slip away undetected. Distance doesn't matter. A warship with weapons and men of war sailing towards a war, while the rest of the IR navy is getting skull fucked, is not a smart decision.
