Say it ain't so @mark-carney.bsky.social 🥺 "...with our advantages comes the responsibility to help each other and the world.." "By living the values of sustainability, resilience and responsibility ... you will inspire others..." #values all a lie?

Greater Vancouver Food Bank gave me these seeds to plant! 🥕🍅🥬 Normally don't like donor gifts, but thought these were a great idea.💡 foodbank.bc.ca Donate if you can. They are a very efficient & impactful charity.

The #taxPayersFederation wants to know how I feel about #IndustrialCarbonTax. Here's my reply, a.k.a why I say NO to #pp "carney tax" rhetoric. (NB I'm not an economist or climate expert so, feel free to counterpoint, w reputable sources)

The EU will soon tariff carbon-heavy imports from countries without carbon pricing. We need strong EU trade ties to avoid relying on the unstable US economy.

Climate change matters. Carbon pricing could cut 80M tonnes of emissions/year by 2030 — key to hitting our targets. Is there a better plan?

70% of oilsands profits go to foreign owners. I care about Canadians, not foreign exploitation. Alberta needs long-term investment, not short-term oil gains.

I support tax cuts — but not at the cost of our future, our environment, or Canadian livelihoods.

📌 More letters to: pierre.poilievre@parl.gc.ca

Dear Mr. Poilievre,

I am writing to seek clarity on your opposition to the federal carbon tax, particularly regarding its application to large corporations and major polluters. While I understand your concerns about affordability and the impact on consumers, I am interested in learning more about your alternative approach to holding big polluters accountable and addressing the urgent climate crisis.

Climate change is a pressing issue that requires decisive action, and I believe any effective strategy must ensure that major emitters contribute fairly to reducing carbon pollution. If your party does not support a carbon pricing system, what specific measures do you propose to reduce emissions, transition to cleaner energy, and encourage sustainable business practices?

Additionally, I must express my disappointment with the tone of conservative political ads, which seem more focused on attacking opponents and tearing down Canada rather than offering constructive solutions. These tactics, which echo the divisive fear-mongering strategies used by Donald Trump, are deeply off-putting. I believe Canadians deserve leadership that unites rather than divides, offering hope and concrete policies rather than negativity and partisanship.

I would greatly appreciate your response outlining your plan to tackle the climate crisis while maintaining economic growth and protecting Canadians from rising costs. Thank you for your time, and I look forward to your reply.

Quote from Maria Ressa's How to Stand Up to A Dictator: "a good journalist doesn't look for balance...because that would create false equivalence...Good journalists lean on the side of evidence, on incontrovertible facts."
