Great god you got there. Gives you a free dog and lets Zionists kill Palistinian babies. Nice to know 'He' has got his priorities in order.

I know this isn't going to helpful but I usually give up on a series as soon as I discover it IS a series, which is usually before I have even finished reading the blurb. Stand alone books which spawn a sequel, and then another, are one thing; but books that start out to be 'Episode One'. Forget it.

reading trash is a great way to learn a language. I'm learning French by reading comics and pulp SF (the kind of stuff I read in my native English. It does mean however I know how to say things like 'the dragonship hurtled their powerful craft through the immensity of the interstellar void'...

bang on. I read the first when it came out as an adult. thought it was okay, if derivative, about a third of the way through the second I gave up; it was the same book. My wife, never a great reader (unlike me), avidly read them all - and I don't think has picked up a book since.

As one of those salty old men (I am older than the show and. remember watching now lost episodes) I welcome this. At least it has a clear target audience in mind. Something the 'real' show hasn't had for years.

I am suspecting you haven't seen enough of 'The Asylum''s product. (I cannot with the best will in the world call them 'movies' and I've watched more Albert Pyun movies than any one person should ever watch.

H2O is indeed a chemical and as it made up of two other chemicals, H and O, and they combined in a reactive process you could even describe water as a 'processesed chemical' if you were so minded.

most people 'overthink'? or most people think, 'why am I doing something I don't want to do and is ultimately pointless?' and go off and do something else that they do want to do, and isn't pointless, and achieve something that makes them happy?

and from the sublime to the rediculous. I alternate books in French and English. After finishing the last book (in English) and not wanting to go downstairs I asked my son to bring up a random book from the shelves of, as yet, unread French SF... Perry fucking Rodhan... ah well, at least it's short.

currently rattling through this again and it's making me want to reread her Johnathan Strange & Mr Norrell, and Gaiman's Stardust, and Townsend Warner's The Kingdoms of Elfin - all at the same time!

I'm a long time SF reader and Futurama casually throws in more interesting SF concepts per episode than Star Trek manages in a whole season. I still can't get my head round the end of 'The Farnsworth Parabox'.

I can't find my paperback copy see its page count - I remember it being chunkier. It's a book that probably improves dramatically with all the pedagogical cataloging removed. I heard a Verne expert refer to him as 'Le roi du copier coller' (the king of cut and paste) in a Radio France documentary.

An edited version or the full endless lists of every mollusc crustacian and 'polyp' they see, with the entire history of every island they pass version? I listened to the full original text in French recently and boy does it drag in places.

panning? or tracking? or both? A favourite is in Argento's Deep Red when a tracking shot follows David Hemmings across a deserted square. He stops - a sudden revelation hits him. The camera keeps moving, dollies around him so he ends up facing the other way on the screen I hated Goddard's Weekend.

I have just scrolled through the NY Times 100 best TV shows of the 21st Century. I have seen one show (in its 5 season entirety) and one episode of another - and that is it. And looking at the list I don't feel like I've missed out at all.

I love repairing books & recently did my first decent rebacking (that, as the name might suggest, is reattaching a detached spine to a hardback). A very battered Victorian, broken spined, 1st ed. of Valdar the Oft Born by George Griffith is now complete and readable again. (It's compulsively awful!)

People are still reading Homer and Shakespear.... and some of us are still reading Sax Rohmer and Vargo Statten. (Though quite why is a good question.)

As long as you don't stop to think for one second about how the film doesn't make any sense at all, and is just an series of eye candy moments... it is a fantastically dumb movie.

the weirdest example of this I have seen was a few deades ago (sob!) - as a UK movie tie in to the movie Flash, 6 Flash Gordon pulps were reissued - all with same still of Sam Jones from the movie on the cover. Only the titles were different and the FLASH logo was in a different colour on each
