Screenshot from the Holocaust Encyclopedia says: The first concentration camps in Germany were established soon after Hitler's appointment as chancellor in January 1933. In the weeks after the Nazis came to power, the SA (Sturmabteilung; commonly known as the Storm Troopers), the SS (Schutzstaffel; Protection Squadrons—the elite guard of the Nazi party), the police, and local civilian authorities organized numerous detention camps to incarcerate real and perceived political opponents of Nazi policy. German authorities established camps all over Germany on an ad hoc basis to handle the masses of people arrested as alleged subversives.

Screenshot from History.com (linked) says: The Great Terror of 1937, also known as the Great Purge, was a brutal political campaign led by Soviet dictator Joseph Stalin to eliminate dissenting members of the Communist Party and anyone else he considered a threat. Although estimates vary, most experts believe at least 750,000 people were executed during the Great Terror, which started around 1936 and ended in 1938. More than a million survivors were sent to forced labor camps, known as Gulags. This ruthless and bloody operation caused rampant terror throughout the Soviet Union and impacted the country for many years.

"Melania isn't pro-choice. She's pro-Melania. ... She's hawking a $40 book on the backs of dead women." — Jessica Valenti's Abortion Every Day newsletter jessica.substack.com/p/melania-trum…
Screenshot from the Abortion Every Day newsletter says: Melania Trump dropped a bombshell this week, claiming to be an ardent abortion rights supporter in a ‘leaked’ excerpt of her upcoming memoir and video posted to social media. “Why should anyone other than the woman herself have the power to determine what she does with her own body?,” she asks.

Americans are meant to believe that the timing of this reveal is mere coincidence. Never mind that her husband is trailing with women voters by more than 20 points, that stories of women killed by abortion bans have been dominating the national conversation, and that the presidential election is weeks away. She just felt called to share!

Do they think we’re stupid? Melania isn’t pro-choice, she’s pro-Melania.

This announcement isn’t about a woman standing up to her powerful husband, or a heartfelt revelation about an issue close to the former first lady’s heart. Melania has always been complicit in her husband’s reign of terror and bigotry. And now, in a moment of unthinkable suffering, she is hawking a $40 book on the backs of dead women. ($250 if you want it signed with extra pictures.)

It doesn’t hurt that coming out as a champion of reproductive rights might alleviate Donald Trump’s glaring woman problem. Mini Timmaraju, president of Reproductive Freedom for All, calls it “a desperate move from a desperate campaign.”

Key Points
New York Mayor Eric Adams has appointed to a top city job an executive with ties to businesses and officials who have come under legal scrutiny, including the Trump Organization and Russian oligarch Viktor Vekselberg, who has been sanctioned by the U.S. government.
Edward Mermelstein, whom Adams named earlier this month to be commissioner of New York’s international affairs office, also is linked to public relations executive Ronn Torossian, who has worked for clients such as the government of Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan.
In an interview with CNBC, Mermelstein said part of his job is to lure people and companies to do business in New York.

Screenshot from 9/23/23 CNN story says: Melania Trump has barely been seen on the campaign trail this year. One of the few times she has appeared at a political event, she’s received a six-figure paycheck – a highly unusual move for the spouse of a candidate.

The former first lady spoke at two political fundraisers for the Log Cabin Republicans this year, and she was paid $237,500 for an April event, according to former President Donald Trump’s latest financial disclosure form. The payment was listed as a “speaking engagement.”

Trump’s latest disclosure form said Melania Trump was paid by the Log Cabin Republicans for the April fundraiser. But it’s a mystery who actually cut the check: Charles Moran, president of the Log Cabin Republicans, told CNN earlier this month the group did not put up the money for her to speak, and the disclosure form did not give any more information about the source of the payment.
