This framing relies on a single Yale poll, and distorts what that poll actually found to the point of absurdity.

A set polling crosstabs showing that 40% of 18-22 year olds ID as at least “slightly conservative” while only 38% of 23-29 year olds ID that way, but in comparison that number jumps from 45% to 47% for 18-22 year olds who Id as at least “slightly liberal”. Overall, there is a clear pattern that 18-34 year olds are significantly more likely to ID as liberal over conservative.
