Every week, we talk about boxes packed, groceries delivered, miles driven and the supplies we still need. But sometimes a moment happens that explains why we keep doing this better than any number ever could.

One of our volunteers shared this after making deliveries this week:

“Today I added a 3rd delivery despite the extra time and many miles between me, the pantry and the recipient. I couldn’t leave them without a delivery on a weekend and saw they were a first time family.

When I arrived, the mom was so appreciative and pulled out her phone to use the translation app to thank me, ask questions and explain her situation. As her adorable toddler played beside us, I gave her resources. Then she wrote a beautiful thank you on her phone to me.

I could see what she really needed was a big warm hug (never mind the 100 degree heat)! After a good embrace she smiled broadly. I was reminded again why it is we do this.”

This is why we do this.

A delivery may look like a box of groceries from the outside. But on the other side of the door is a real family navigating circumstances most of us will never fully see.

Sometimes what we bring is canned vegetables, ramen, diapers and fresh food.

Sometimes it’s information and resources.

Sometimes it’s simply the reassurance that someone showed up. Someone cares. You are not alone.

And week after week, our volunteers keep showing up. ❤️
