I've added a new browsing mode to discoverbandcamplabels.com: "The Dig" 🪏 I built this directory so you can discover more music, by browsing labels that are similar to a label you already like. Now the site finally lives up to this promise. Dig through music and put it into a crate:

I wrote AudioProxy to get simple audio variants without a job queue, a variants table, backfilling huge swathes of records, and a whole lot of additional plumbing that goes with it. Here's how it works: dev.to/julianrubisc...

More recently, and an indirect outcome of that, I’ve published audioproxy.dev, an open source, drop in solution to transcode, edit, trim, normalize audio on the fly.
audioproxy.dev
audioproxy — audio variants, addressed by URL
Open-source on-the-fly audio transcoding proxy. Name a format in a signed URL and audioproxy renders the variant on demand, streams it, and caches it. If you know imgproxy, this is that, for audio.

Find out what works, they say, and do more of that. Well, something that always „worked“ for me is my passion for music, audio, and sound art. So I‘m doubling down on that 🧵👇

The TLDR is that the deploy step that's been removed was doing an actual job. It was making sure that the natural anxiety that goes with publishing your software had a natural crystallization point, where it was felt and dissolved, not blocked out.

Digging deeper I realized that there's a cognitive shift at work here, in how these platforms approach distribution of your software. I’ve written about this here: www.railsreviews.com/articles/why...

What can we do about agent-generated technical prose? I enjoy agentic coding, but pull request descriptions, commit messages and code comments are so overloaded with meaningless slop they're downright useless. If I have to read the term "load bearing" just one more time...

New Hotwire Club challenge! I learned this technique from @domchristie.bsky.social , and it's a really slick one: Turn a controller into an asynchronously callable API via Promise Returning Outlets: hotwire.club/blog/2026-07...

Stimulus - Promise-Returning Outlet Methods
Use the deferred-promise pattern to expose an async ask() method on a Stimulus confirm dialog controller, callable via outlets from anywhere.

Whether AI generated or not, most consumers can’t decide one from the other, and they couldn’t care less. As long as musicians sell themselves to bigcorp, that’s not going to change.
000
Julian Rubisch @julianrubisch.at · 27/06/2026
What does that say about the self-conception of musicians? What does it say about the audience? Yeah there’s lots of more to choose from nowadays than before but that’s precisely the point.

Julian Rubisch @julianrubisch.at · 27/06/2026
In my youth I saved up a months pocket money to buy one (!) CD. Nowadays you get ALL albums for half that price a month. The exchange value of music is zero.

You know, in the arts and music world there’s a lot of debate going on these days regarding how AI created content devalues the „real thing“. But here’s the thing: at least in the case of music, art has devalued itself a long time ago already.

Four it skips most: boundaries it crosses without telling you, code only it can read, a happy path with no failure path, architecture it re-votes on every session. The founder has to be the guardrail. The model won't be.
100
Julian Rubisch @julianrubisch.at · 18/06/2026
An AI coding agent has one goal: make the code you asked for run. Not safe. Not coherent. Just run. It'll quietly cross a boundary, skip the failure path, or re-decide your architecture to get there. None of it shows up in a working demo.
