Spotted on a local Canadian telco's mobile plan page. What an absolute blatant grift: They're advertising 5G+ speeds and 75Gb monthly but then throttling video to SD speeds which could be streamed over 3G, a tech available over a decade ago.

Today I decided to lower a floor-standing lamp made of 3 stacked metal tubes. I unscrewed the bottom tube at both ends, reeled the cable out, then screwed the top 2 tubes back to the base.  The only irreversible change was the floor switch, an easy solder job so I did as elegant a job as I could:

This is the 120V switch, which originally had an uninterrupted line on top.

The switch was conveniently transparent with a wire release mechanism so that made the job easier. I did have to solder the expose cable again to ensure it would slip through firmly and make solid, snug contact with both of the switch’s connectors inside the plastic casing.

Here’s the switch housing which I decided to adjust slightly on top, which was originally identical to the bottom portion. The electrical has a solder point to accommodate so some of the plastic was shaved down.

Here is the final assembly, as you can see the original layout is retained for the most part. I applied some hot glue to the soldered joint to minimise an electrical short if it gets wet.
