He has a pension and my parents lived way below their means in a way that’s a lot harder now with the cost of housing and food, so he could do that. But you can’t haul heavy hoses up ladders and drag people out of burning buildings forever

Trades are great! Working with your hands is absolutely rewarding! But many of them can be absolutely brutal on the body, so you need strong labor protections in place and pensions for reasonable retirement. There’s a reason my dad retired at 58 from being a firefighter.
