You and Bernie as the Brain Trust of the Democratic Party, Jon Stewart and Pete Buttigieg as the face of the party. That's my USA political dream team, but I'm British so take my comments with due caution.

I like how you think.

Unless I am very much mistaken @studiousbadger.bsky.social some people have misunderstood the humour in your comment. I think your mention of guns triggered their automatic reply to a perceived American, aka threat.

I am so sorry. Trump has played the Constitution, Senate, Congress, Judiciary, the American People and so far, he's winning. Think the whole checks & balances thing needs a rewrite.

They know. They just don't care if anyone points out their lie. Plus, they know that MAGA supporters are to dumb to understand and Republican politicians are too chicken to do anything about it.

I am not wild about Starmer and I mean that in the best possible sense. He isn't flashy, he isn't a powerhouse of charisma that wins everyone over just by engaging with them. He's doing a tough job and, as you say, hard to see anyone do much better. Well said.

#1 "What do you call people who mock?" Comics, comedians, impressionists. Those are 3 at the top of my head.

#2 Am I right in positing you haven't experienced discrimination or xenophobia by Leavers? If not, you really should try it. Quite an eye opener. Don't fret for me. I am used to it and am perfectly capable of defending myself. Verbally. Verbally, Reformers are no challenge. Because reasons.

How do we combat the following example of BS? What do we call people who believe council elections are the same as General Elections if not 'stupid'? Do we treat everyone as an unfortunate citizen that deserves help or do we consider social media posts as THE MEDIA & potentially foreign actors?

Jules @julesmcc.bsky.social · 11/05/2026
#2 'from their point of view' Okay. Frequent problem with interviewing Reform voters is when you do hear about things from their point of view, you either quickly confirm they don't understand what Reform is proposing or so great is the cognitive dissonance that it very quickly becomes an argument

Jules @julesmcc.bsky.social · 11/05/2026
Oh, from you. That wasn't clear. Understood. Almost every single Brexit voter, given enough rope, will show themselves to be vulnerable by some measure or other. Unable to follow a logical argument, unable to avoid contradicting themselves within a couple of sentences, etc. Ripe for exploitation.

Jules @julesmcc.bsky.social · 11/05/2026
#2 voting for one's interests is what voting allows one to do in its purest form. But seeing the non-wealthy voting against their interests... damn if it isn't doesn't deserve being called out for what it is. Otherwise, I'd be lying to them and that is Reform's job.

Jules @julesmcc.bsky.social · 11/05/2026
You cited it to counter my argument! Let's put it down to forgetting the original thrust of the post. Fine. Move on to your point. I consider the rich Brexit voter to be selfish and interested in exploiting others. Twas ever thus, barring some laudable exceptions. They're a tiny portion of 52%.

This top post? The one that ends with showing Reform voters who they'll be voting with? I mean, it criticises the media but it also mocks those who would fall into the gullible or low information category. At the very least it suggests using those people as examples to deter new Reform voters.

IMHO the whole system is almost beyond repair: print and client journalism is skewed by funding from foreign & nefarious sources, social media is a conduit for foreign actors, lack of critical thinking means BS works, austerity devastated many and they're rightly angry.

One can generally anticipate the current Conservative Party's next moves by considering what would be the nastiest or most braggadocious things to do. You do have a particular knack for this though.
000
Jules @julesmcc.bsky.social · 10/05/2026
Low information voters. You're talking about low information voters! If the lies/toxic opinions are told with authority, and a posh voice but aren't challenged then many will presume they are legitimate.

Jules @julesmcc.bsky.social · 10/05/2026
In the old days, village idiots were kept in check by the villagers. Now these idiots consume lie after misinformation after delusion and we're expected to respect their opinions. To their credit, they've learned to avoid many interactions that would expose them to ridicule on the public stage.

I admire your faith in humans. I don't share it. The 'right kind of information' is competing against groundless lies, false promises, and easy solutions with no need to deliver. Unless something is done to prevent these lies from spreading or we inoculate people from believing the BS, we fail.

Jules @julesmcc.bsky.social · 10/05/2026
I would normally agree. However, they've made this mistake twice. They now voted for Brexit, which has been bad. They've voted for the guy who misled them into voting for Brexit. At this point I'm over the 'contempt for conmen, compassion for the conned"

The Reform secret sauce: 1) act like you're the common man, despite being a private school educated stock broker 2) deny deny deny any transgressions 3) avoid directly racist language. Euphemisms are your friend. 4) the baddies are anyone but the rich. The EU and migrants are to blame. 5) lie

Farage, like Trump, loves the uneducated.

Jules @julesmcc.bsky.social · 08/05/2026
Showing them? How can you show people who cannot reason? Farage didn't show them how being in the EU was bad for them, nor that migrants were harming the economy. Farage lied to them and played on their prejudice. We have to improve the economy and prevent harm from nefarious foreign actors.

There is a simple reason for this. The key word is 'simple'.

Currently, that looks about right. Historically worse decisions have been made on the continent. But we're plucky, and are catching up.

So much of King Charles' life has been spent waiting in the wings, and it's not been time wasted. QEII was a hard, almost an impossible act to follow. Got to hand it to him, he played the card he was dealt with aplomb. Kudos to Starmer too for the decision to push for the visit.

And their previous stances on Brexit, Truss' proposed budget and the UK's participation in America's war with Iran. Just so we know how much faith to put into their pronouncements.

When you accept this as valid maths, you're telling the world that you're as thick as mince or that you are willing to debase yourself and lie to the world about anything.

goodlawproject.org/orbans-pay-c... Any chance we can justify labelling Matt Goodwin's or Nathan Gill's actions as Treason (aka High Treason)? Or do we have to formally declare Hungary/Russia as enemy states and Orban as a Russian asset/agent? Personally, I think they're modern day Lord Haw-Haws.

Orbán’s pay cheques: Reform candidate fuelled by profits from Russian oil
The Reform candidate at this month’s byelection claims he wants to put Britain first, but is he still on the payroll of Viktor Orbán’s far-right propaganda unit?

I was asking a similar question after Jan 6th a few years back, and thinking along similar lines. What can I say? Americans have a can do attitude. Don't be surprised if Trump rides this out to acclaim from MAGA and the Republican Party.

¡Pues, claro que sí! Y si ese mequetrefe osa decir algo inapropiado sobre el poder hablar otros idiomas... well we'll just have to disabuse him of the notion that it in any way impedes or limits us! That was Spanish. Ensuite on peut l'envoyer se faire mettre dans une troisième langue. French.

Speaks volumes that his appearances on The Apprenticeship overshadowed decades of poor behaviour, awful business practices, and business failures. To make him President, with all that history was a genuine surprise. To make him President after the attack Capitol was criminally insane.

It took a war to get rid of the USA's previous king. Let's hope this one vacates the throne more graciously if he is voted out, but Trump's record in 'peaceful transition' is not good, and the signs are that he is willing to engineer changes to make the next Presidential Election 'interesting'!
