Great essay. You concentrate on search, but it's also true in their stores. Google Books has scam books with the same name as real books designed where the purported authors generate them with LLMs. Again, trivial for them to address but they don't.

Google chose violence by sending from a no-reply email with no way to escalate obvious fraud. So I reported this to the MN Attorney General as fraud. There are at least three other "authors" doing this on Play Books right now. Maybe don't purchase books from them until they figure this out.

Search results on Google Play books showing three different AI slop fake Dungeon Crawler Carl books, plus two audiobooks.

Hey, does anyone here know how to get an actual human at Google Play Books to look at something? They don't sell Dungeon Crawler Carl. Instead, they have a number of scam artists selling AI slop knockoffs. All I am getting is automatic denials of my refund requests right now.

Image of bad knockoff books with the same names as the entire Dungeon Crawler Carl series, being actively sold on the Google Play Books storefront.

I agree, and actually think it should be even further. Collector number should incorporate more data. Name, frame/art type, and foil treatment as distinct numbers. So it could have 0123 02 03 meaning "name 123 on the set list", art type 2 (extended art), foil type 3 (set-specific foil treatment).

I put Library of Leng in a Commander deck recently in a Commander Arcade deck, but I also was on-site for the filming in case something went weird and bad. It wasn't drawn, so all was right with the world.

I hope you get to play against one of the 9 decks I made for Meghan and Maria, Ashad is a fun ride I think you would enjoy.

Feel free to shoot me a message. I have several topics I can easily fill an hour with. Judging and inventing ways to judge weird events like Cube and TEDH is probably closest to home. I love giving structure to big group fun. I also do some amount of work with Magikids.

CubeCon Saturday! I'm playing Lavender in the Desert. Currently 2-0 with UW reasonablestuff. Weirdly, Untethered Express has won two games.

Second #cubecon draft of the day. Bthe TL;DR Cube. Ended up at 2-1, lost to an excellent Madison local friend.

Drafted WG Coco+Gearhulk. Ended up at 1-2 after some super fun games. Dana Fischer rolled me with a Sumggler's Surprise putting Bonny Pall and Voreclex out in the same turn.

Update: best Twin play was on Mnemonic Wall to cast Abrade seven times during a game. Ended up 2-1, lost to a deck that owned Millstone and Swords to Plowshares. Great games, a really fun cube.

Oh. Digital-only first-printings don't generally get proofs either that I've seen, that's a good point. I misread the original question a bit. I know that the original Voja token by Sardinha didn't get a proof made, because it was MTGO only, for instance.

100

Judge Rob @judgerob.bsky.social · 02/09/2025

Historically, every artist gets proofs of any card that has proofs made. Proofs aren't made of UB cards. This is a likely-contractual choice by Wizards that I think is very dumb.

I've got a question on the token art. You credit the artist here, are they credited anywhere on the tokens themselves? It's hard to track down the source of token art sometimes if I think it's cool and I want to get in touch with the artist.
