Do you want a better Waterfall in Chrome DevTools? Then plus 1 this bug: issues.chromium.org/issues/34649... It's one of the things we're considering working on next but need to see that the interest is there, and it's not just a thing I'd like to see...

I've asked myself the same question earlier today. I'm pretty sure they're reporting false positives due to some uncaught/unexpected error or just not running at all and the UI assumes no stored error = success

This is super interesting! Thanks to the team for open sourcing it! I'm curious if the goal is eventually to support deploying it (f.e. to CF Browser Rendering), or for it continue being a local CLI tool

This sounds super interesting. I'm a bit skeptical on how unit economics would work – but compared to we'll-try-to-scrape-everything-we-can-unless-you-can-sue-us-or-fully-block-us, it feels like a great alternative. Would love to see any leading provider send a positive signal..

Unless it has a noticeable impact (e.g. you're incurring in some serious costs) I'd always assume good faith and err on the side of caution. Did you have a single POC? Do they still work there? Can you reach them via other social network? Good luck sorting it out

That's quite dystopian. Wondering whether it's a person or an AI on the other side of a chat? Of course. But making DMs *longer* with AI? That's even more disrespectful somehow.

Yeah - my only concern an hour ago was even Cloudflare was not updating their status page after more than a few minutes. I'd assume they were struggling to get access to do it, still miles ahead than other providers in my very personal opinion

Cloudflare has an odd "Minor Service Outage" legend without much notice (odd as they are usually more descriptive when ever there's something going on?)
cloudflare's status page shows a warning alert that reads "minor service outage"

Great question – to me it's even worse: if you had a free tier as a lead gen strategy, now you might get A LOT of throw-away AI projects. If Neon had a non-trivial cost per free db (e.g similar as to what made Planetscale remove theirs earlier) – it might have forced them to look for an acquisition

I agree (definitely your earlier post sparked the thought!) but I mean more with the Web as a medium. I think stagehand/others are exploring this, but I think the angle still is more towards replace E2E, scraping and extracting data, etc. I'd be curious if a version of local-only works reliably

"AI should do my laundry" is something that not everyone agrees with but.. I'm surprised that tools that literally do all the errands I'm lazy to do haven't been nailed before trying to "replace" someone's job. E.g. repeat my coffee order, send invoice, pay rent, etc. Ideally with local models?

That's actually a pretty interesting perspective! Are disks designed for such high utilization like RAM/CPU though (genuine question)? I had node throw "ENOSPC: no space left on device" saving a file so I think (1) the job that discards stale caches and (2) the max safe thresholds are a bit off 😂

Parkinson's Law: all caches will expand themselves until your disk has basically no space left, regardless of the disk's total size.
a 512 GB SSD filled with up to 210 GB of "system data". I sincerely hope the system has downloaded ~10 movies in full 4K resolution, and it's not just caches and logs. But it's always caches and logs

On both it was easy to screw up and cross the network boundary with a mountain of data but tooling can help there. I'm excited both exist! Astro seems to be loved, and I think RSC will convince those who still don't see it eye to eye (these posts from Dan are much appreciated on that front). 4/4 🏁

juan ferreras @juanf.is · 06/05/2025
RSC shines if those limits are less obvious, or might change over time. Simpler to re-use, to move from one model to the other. More complexity but a LOT more tools in your kit to provide a better experience for (the long tail specially of) users, than with client-only SPAs. 3/4

juan ferreras @juanf.is · 06/05/2025
IMHO Astro definitely shines for as they say “content-driven” websites, where interactivity is sprinkled in on islands naturally and you kind of know those boundaries already. Docs, marketing, ecomm, etc. It's better to always err on the side of shipping less when session length can be tiny. 2/4

Very interesting read! I’ve played with both Astro and RSC (via Next.js) in my side project. Ended up using both (Astro serves the www. and proxies Next so the user can’t really tell there’s two different properties altogether). Sorry, I have a thing for over engineering my pet projects. 1/4

Chrome 136+ ships a new V8 version that supports a "compile hint", which makes V8 parse and compile all functions in that file eagerly. Great for entry points – where you know all functions will very likely be used. Less so as 'one weird trick to make all your JS faster'.
In our experiment with popular web pages, 17 out of 20 showed improvements, and the average foreground parse and compile times reduction was 630 ms.

You can trigger eager compilation for the whole file by inserting the magic comment
```
//# allFunctionsCalledOnLoad
```
at the top of the file.

This feature should be used sparingly though - compiling too much will consume time and memory!
