It’s perfectly fine for a writer/creator to want fans, and to want those fans to engage with the work and give feedback. It tells us that there’s an appetite for what we put out. But as a creator, I highly implore you to be careful about engaging with fandom.🧵 #WriterSky #WriteSky #WritingCommunity

I had said this on Twitter recently, but if you want my advice on writing good romance, disregard tropes. Good/interesting relationships start with good/interesting characters. That way things develop naturally and allow for easier character exploration.🧵 #WriterSky #WriteSky #WritingCommunity

I used to think the idea of America being a “rape culture” was kinda silly. But between the Epstein files, the pitifully lenient Diddy sentence, and what’s been going on at Cornell, America has repeatedly demonstrated a cataclysmic failure to hold rapists accountable.

I don’t know why the average BookTok mafia man is a 6’4” conventionally attractive white dude with a chiseled jawline and a faux hawk when the average real life mafia man is just a middle-aged Italian guy who probably says slurs.

Just finished The Troop by Nick Cutter. Absolute monolith of horror, this one. Could barely put it down. Expertly written, totally messed up, and will emotionally ruin you for days. Loved it all the way through. Can’t wait to start The Deep. #BookSky

The term “plot armor” tends to have a negative connotation, which isn’t completely unfounded. It lessens the narrative stakes and can take you out ig the story. But I would argue that a story needs to have at least a *little* plot armor. 🧵 #WriterSky #WriteSky #WritingCommunity

Just got out of seeing The End of Oak Street. Finally, a good friggin dinosaur movie. Creature designs were pretty hit or miss, and there clearly wasn’t a lot of consideration for proper time periods. Ending was a *bit* cop-out-y. Still liked it though. Wasn’t afraid to get brutal too. #Filmsky

Do you really like this character or do you like your own idealized version of the character after it’s been warped by headcanons, fan theories, AUs, and rewrites to the point of being entirely unrecognizable, at which point I gotta ask what you liked about the character to begin with.

You cannot “separate the art from the artist” when the artist in question is still alive and actively using their money and influence to hurt innocent people. This should not be a difficult concept to understand.

I am extremely saddened by the passing of Sam Neil. Growing up, Jurassic Park was a huge part of my childhood and helped foster my love of prehistory. He was an extremely good-natured who loved and wish to continue helping the world around him. May he rest in peace.

An issue I, and assuredly many other writers have, is being too preoccupied with how good the first draft of your story is. The fact is that your first draft is ALWAYS going to be crap. The sooner you understand that, the quicker you’ll get it done. 🧵 #WriterSky #WriteSky #WritingCommunity

Leviticus was good, but I don’t think it was quite as good as it could’ve been. I wish we got to see more of the other boy’s perspective, and there were a few loose ends I felt should’ve been addressed. Still a solid film overall with some good horror and tension. #FilmSky

Seeing a lot of the discourse around the TADC finale has confirmed to me that most people’s idea of “good trans representation” is a pure, harmless snowflake incapable of any form of wrongdoing and not an actual nuanced individual with flaws and an arc.

The thing with writing is that, whether you’re aware of it or not, your work is naturally influenced by lived experiences, worldview, and politics. As such, someone’s writing can be an exceptional view into someone’s head and what they really think. 🧵 #WriterSky #BookSky #WritingCommunity

Backrooms was great. Impeccable set design, strong acting all around, and great cinematography/atmosphere. Film is a bit slow to start, and I do wish some stuff was different. But otherwise, great film. Very proud of Kane for pulling all this off.

I feel so bad for Gooseworx. Even putting aside my feelings towards the finale leaks, assuming they’re true, the treatment her fans have been giving her is absolutely abhorrent. Digital Circus was something she was passionate about and the rampant fandom toxicity just ruined it.

Recently finished Lords of the Fallen for the first time. It’s been kinda making the rounds on Twitter lately for numerous reasons, so I figured I, as a Souls vet, should give my fairly unbiased thoughts on it. In all honesty, the game is just kinda alright. 🧵

I have almost zero investment in The Boys, and I hear the finale has been getting mixed reception, but a lot of people I’ve seen criticizing it are the kind of people who genuinely think Homelander is some based gigachad and not the pathetic insecure manchild he actually is.

Was at my uncle’s place for a party and saw this cat. Except, this isn’t one of his cats. This is an entirely different cat that somehow wandered into the house all the way up to the second floor, and then back out again, without anyone else noticing him.
