Two Trump Truths, six months apart. He's promised lower gas prices since the war in Iran spiked prices in February.

In June, I asked David Crowley how much data center tax incentive money was too much. He didn't answer the question directly. After I pushed him, he pivoted to briefly talking about small businesses rather than giving me a hard limit on data center giveaways.

Ben voted for Donald Trump in 2024, now he is supporting Francesca Hong for Wisconsin governor. A negative story about Hong having credit card debt actually cemented Ben's support for the democratic socialist. Full story coming for @statuscoupnews.bsky.social

From anti-vax to socialist volunteer: In the amount of time it took tattoo artist Sophia to ink "We the People" on the arm of one anti-establishment father and prospective voter, she convinced him to support Francesca Hong for governor in Wisconsin. Full story coming @statuscoupnews.bsky.social

"We all need good roads. That's socialist." Alex Lux is a former Republican and Trump voter. Now he's backing Francesca Hong, the socialist running for governor in Wisconsin. He says he is far more concerned about politicians pushing for real change than labels like "socialist."

" They need to remember they work for us!" Warren, Michigan, resident Susie admitted she doesn't pay daily attention to politics, but she knows that her politicians bow to big money donors over backing people like her.

Susie from Warren, Michigan, says she doesn't believe conservative smears against socialized medicine because she has seen it work for her family, who live in Canada.

Susie is 68 years old with 23 grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She says she can't afford to ignore politics or policies like Medicare for All because, otherwise, healthcare costs in the face of Medicare cuts will drive her and other seniors to bankruptcy.

"I feel caged." Susie is a 68-year-old Warren, Michigan, resident who needs knee and hip surgeries. She doubts she can afford it because of cuts to Medicare. That's why Abdul El-Sayed's support of Medicare for All resonates with her. She showed up tonight at an El-Sayed canvas.

Tonight, Dr. Abdul El-Sayed, running for Senate in Michigan, told press he wished the media reported reality rather than narratives. The next question: a media narrative about a "battle for the soul of the Democratic Party" rather than struggles facing working-class Michiganders.

Ford is rehiring 300 quality assurance workers it tried to replace with AI. Rather than increasing efficiency, the company issued more recalls last year than any other automaker. BUT it's only rehiring workers so it can train up the AI. The assault on working people continues...

Word is circulating among protesters outside Delaney Hall that police are not allowing anyone with a mask or backpack to approach the prison camp. Many protesters (and press!) have been wearing respirators and bringing other supplies to defend themselves from ICE agents.

"Do you support restricting public charter school authorization exclusively to local public school boards?" @missyforwi.bsky.social @saraforwi.com both said no. That will make earning MTI's endorsement harder. Though it seems Hughes' strategy does not rely on labor's support.

"Do you support requiring utility rate increases tied to data center construction be passed primarily onto the data centers themselves?" All yeses. I am interested to see if this answer ends up carrying a political cost if any of them wins. Delivering on this could be tough.

"Right now, companies can—and do—require local leaders to sign nondisclosure agreements that prevent community members from learning about potential economic development projects. Would you sign legislation banning this practice?" All yes.

JT Cestkowski @jtcestkowski.bsky.social · 03/06/2026
"Do you support a one-year or longer moratorium on data center construction in Wisconsin?" Only @francescahongwi.bsky.social said yes. Gasps in the room. The "no" candidates used their long-form answers to qualify that they would support regulations. But this is a red line for many people.

JT Cestkowski @jtcestkowski.bsky.social · 03/06/2026
"Would you support a law requiring employers to disclose when they are using an AI system to monitor employees?" Personally glad to see all yeses here. AI is a scary new world and I don't think we yet know the extent to which it is being weaponized against workers.

JT Cestkowski @jtcestkowski.bsky.social · 03/06/2026
"Would you support a law requiring a human be the final decision maker on any workplace policy that may affect employees and their employment status?" All yeses, so it seems that Missy Hughes is in favor of some AI regulations, just wants to be somewhat deferential to employers.
110
JT Cestkowski @jtcestkowski.bsky.social · 03/06/2026
"Do you support the state proactively regulating how AI is implemented in the workplace?" @missyforwi.bsky.social is the only candidate who said "no." This tracks with her pro-business agenda. A forum hosted by progressive unions was never going to be her home turf.
110
JT Cestkowski @jtcestkowski.bsky.social · 03/06/2026
"Would you support expanding Medicaid to cover more Wisconsinites?" @keldaroys.bsky.social was the only "no." There was an interesting discussion by the candidates about if it's still in Wisconsin's interest to expand Medicaid. But I will post about that separately.

"As governor, would you use your office to apply pressure to employers who engage in union busting?" All yeses. I didn't ask how they would apply pressure, but it will look bad if they don't do something public while in office.
