Sounds like Mamdani reciprocated exactly. Espaillat just failed to win the primary, preventing Mamdani from switching support to him in the general. And this quote from NYT leaves out that Espaillat didn't just not endorse Mamdani; he endorsed Cuomo. He bet on the wrong horse; that's politics.

Mr. Espaillat did not back Mr. Mamdani in last year's primary, but afterward, he quickly endorsed him and brought along Latino support. Mr. Mamdani had privately assured Mr. Espaillat at the time that he would reciprocate if he ever needed it.
