Then they all crash, leaving data centres and broken hallucinations across the landscape. 110

Jonathan Sean Lyster @jslyster.com · 05/05/2026This reminds me of the South Park episode where a bunch of people get stuck in the school during a snowstorm. Jonathan Sean Lyster @jslyster.com · 29/04/2026Excellent. The US government has paid for the hardware and now they're paying to close the contracts. The companies will still build the wind farms, they'll just do it in other countries. The US is speedrunning its way to irrelevance. 000

Jonathan Sean Lyster @jslyster.com · 10/04/2026Will the rest of the world (including my home, Canada) actually be better off if the US causes considerably more damage to itself, resulting in Americans dying of starvation, lack of medical care, or violence, before the United States recovers? 3/ 100

Jonathan Sean Lyster @jslyster.com · 23/03/2026Here's the thing. The French company will take their payoff, then sell the wind turbine hardware in under a week to a country that is looking at the oil situation thanks to the Iran war and thinking, "We need to get off oil as fast as possible." 162
Jonathan Sean Lyster @jslyster.com · 23/03/2026Why would the Iranians, after losing so much of their military and infrastructure but also clearly having the US on the back foot over the closing of the Strait, accept a return to terms Trump tossed out? After everything Trump has done to them, I suspect the Iranians are going to squeeze him hard. 151
Jonathan Sean Lyster @jslyster.com · 17/03/2026Well said. For all his faults, JJ Abrams understood this when he created the Kelvin universe. Suddenly Trek's legacy characters weren't just filling space until TOS rolled in. They were forging a new path -- and that meant they could face real peril and change in interesting ways. 020
Jonathan Sean Lyster @jslyster.com · 17/03/2026Much as I loved "Firefly" (and before that, "Moon Zero Two" for all its cheesiness and wooden acting -- but hey, James Olson in a spacesuit on the Moon with a pearl-handled revolver strapped to his hip!), I think you're spot-on. Jonathan Sean Lyster @jslyster.com · 27/02/2026You're right that origin tales are a gimme for superheroes, but I'd quibble about one thing: your remark about "The Dark Knight." Batman does face a bigger, scarier threat -- but I think that film works because it is also an origin tale: the origin of the relationship between Batman and the Joker. 010
Jonathan Sean Lyster @jslyster.com · 27/02/2026I've seen this so much myself. I also see people using AI detection tools (which use AI) to detect whether images are AI-generated. They insist they don't trust AI, but they trust the tools based on AI. (According to those tools, my cats are AI-generated.) 040
