And while determining the scale and pervasiveness of corruption within all levels of the Pakistan judiciary is a difficult task, the evidence in our report points to indicators of potential grand corruption, in particular due to the high-level actors involved and the widespread human rights impact

Because we know corruption is not a victim-less crime, we wanted to look at how corruption directly and indirectly impacts human rights: we found it significantly undermines rights to due process and fair trials, with a particularly disastrous impact on minorities and lower-income communities

👉 Failure to uphold these principles risks further entrenching impunity, undermining the credibility of the European Union’s commitment to human rights and gender justice, and abandoning Afghanistan victims and survivors at a critical moment.

6️⃣ : Instead, the EU should engage in structured and meaningful consultation with Afghanistan civil society, victims, and women human rights defenders, to ensure that their perspectives directly inform EU policy decisions.
110
Juliette Rousselot @jrousselot.bsky.social · 27/05/2026
5️⃣ : The EU must ensure that no individual associated with the Taliban authorities, or any individual against whom credible allegations of serious human rights violations have been made, is received, hosted, or engaged in any form of cooperation or consultation.
110
Juliette Rousselot @jrousselot.bsky.social · 27/05/2026
4️⃣ : The EU must publicly and unequivocally affirm that the rights of Afghanistan women and girls are non-negotiable, and cannot be compromised or used as bargaining chip in the context of diplomatic engagement or migration policy.
110
Juliette Rousselot @jrousselot.bsky.social · 27/05/2026
3️⃣ : The EU must recognise that the minimum conditions often cited by the EU for engagement — including respect for fundamental rights, particularly women’s rights — are not currently met, and that proceeding despite this would undermine the European Union’s human rights commitments.
120
Juliette Rousselot @jrousselot.bsky.social · 27/05/2026
2️⃣ : Any forced returns to Afghanistan would raise serious concerns under intl law, including the principle of non-refoulement. This concern is particularly acute for women & girls, whose lives, safety, and fundamental rights are at immediate and systemic risk under the Taliban.
120
Juliette Rousselot @jrousselot.bsky.social · 27/05/2026
1️⃣ : the Taliban do not represent the people of Afghanistan. Any official engagement with Taliban reps, particularly on European soil, carries significant legal, political and symbolic implications. It risks being perceived as a form of normalization or implicit recognition.

In Oct 2024, we @fidh-official.bsky.social released a report that analysed how the abrogation of Kashmir's statehood set off a chain reaction of legal changes that fundamentally altered Kashmir's land laws - in effect dismantling Kashmiris' right to land. Read it here: www.fidh.org/en/region/as...

Since 2019, the #humanrights crisis in Kashmir has deteriorated even further. The population is subjected to surveillance, silencing, harassment, and individual & collective punishment, including arbitrary arrests & detentions, denial of the right to work and expropriation of land & property

In August 2019, Prime Minister Modi and his BJP government unilaterally revoked Jammu & Kashmir's special status, without any sort of local consultation or approval.
100
Juliette Rousselot @jrousselot.bsky.social · 26/05/2026
For decades, the people of Jammu & Kashmir have been denied fundamental freedoms and subjected to grave human rights violations. Kashmiri muslims have especially been targeted. The State's special status under the Indian Constitution gave some protections but left the door wide open for many abuses
