Can I shout out Daughters of Darkness (Kumel, 1971)? More Bathory than fangs but a great film.

A nicely sized #calcite rhombohedron for #MinCup26 from the same Derbyshire location as the pyromorphite. There’s large walls of transparent calcite there and these twin crystals I left intact.

Hiya 👋 The recent news about the Devil’s Arrows coming from Brimham Rocks - about 11 miles to the west - makes me think about your research and whether these massive rocks were somehow floated down the south-east flowing River Ure. Any thoughts?

#MinCup26 Vote #pyromorphite today based on how far I’d travel to collect a decent specimen! Only one rock I’ve found in Derbyshire. Fairly frequent #gypsum satin spar in the glacial till on the Wirral.

Left it clamped two days and put new strings on. Disappointed with it. Still raised on the “wings” of the bridge. Looks a bit ugly too. I did use Titebond III when I should have used Original (stupidly thought, well, that’ll be three times better).

Sanded it, glued and clamped - though the plastic thing raising the strings got in the way of the clamp so it was pushing down further at the back.

It’d cost not far off buying the instrument again taking it to a luthier so I’ve decided to have a crack myself. Bridge came off super easy with little evidence of glue on it.

Bit annoyed with daughter’s first #guitar - Fender Redondo Mini. She’s had it about 18 months and only just started playing it over Summer. Some severe bridge lifting going on:

Sheehan’s work rate, Dong’s tenacity, and Conway growing into an excellent player. Just not getting the results or points. Hope the team don’t get despondent because the fans are behind them and Schumacher.

Searching round as to what #anorthite is and - whether I’ve got any in the house, I realised there’s Oslo rift porphyry from the coast of Yorkshire here. The rhomb shaped phenocrysts are a ternary composition of potassium feldspar, albite, and anorthite. Love #MinCup26 for learning.
Oslo rift rhomb porphyry carried from Norway to the coast of Yorkshire. The lighter markings are the phenocrysts formed by different cooling events.

#MinCup26 #teamsphalerite Going for #sphalerite today. Can be found on spoil with galena (lead) and fluorite. It’s metallic like galena but is much lighter and forms triangular rather than cubic crystals. Often weathers into a bit of a mess but again the light weight should be a giveaway. My pics.
Triangular metallic sphalerite (I’m trying not to allow this to autocorrect to ‘sphincter’)Cubic galena in a bed of quartz.Likely sphalerite with fluorite.

#MinCup26 I adore #azurite which is one of the minerals that began my fascination with picking up rocks. But… I really need to learn more about #smithsonite as I find it so difficult to ID in the wild with all its varieties. Photos from my own foraging. #teamsmithsonite today

Loved The Melvins’ set at Reading c.1990. Manu Dibango was insane. Some kind of free festival/carnival north of Paris. I just remember him leading a load of kids Pied Piper style over a sandy wasteland playing the sax.

I saw a few alt and punk bands in the Bay Area early 90s - Truman’s Water and Steel Pole Bathtub being the best. Def saw Green Day round there and - very hazy - maybe The Mr T Experience at Gilman Street. Tad doing a free concert in Seattle. Beastie Boys in Paris. Manu Dibango in the suburbs.

Our little haul from the week. We had a good time. Unsure what’s in the middle rock. Plus possible crab from Skinningrove:

Thanks for saying. Just from photos, the beach at Redcar looked a bit sandy for my normal foraging. It’ll be good though. Always nice to get away for a few days.

We’re off around this area for the next few days - Redcar and down the coast. Any tips for decent accessible rocky beaches for fossils?

The Robin Hood’s Stone, or Archer’s Stone - nothing to do with Robin Hood or archers sharpening their arrows - but originally supposed to be part of the nearby Bronze Age Calderstones set. #standingstonesunday

Reads a bit like they’ve watched too much Bullseye. Though it would be fun for penalty shootouts if Mbappe scored top right and won a toaster. Risky shot straight down the middle bags the VCR.
