This pizza really is great

I have to assume my state tax returns are never going to get to where they're supposed to be. I mailed my federal returns at the same time, and they arrived in Utah on the 24th.
A screenshot of USPS tracking from their webpage. It shows that an item was dropped off at a post office in New Orleans on 4/14 at 4:38p, departed that post office two hours later, made it to the regional distribution center the next morning, was in a North Houston Texas distribution on 4/17, and has since been moving through the network as of 4/21. There are no newer updates. At the time Jessica is posting this, it has been 17 days since she dropped it off.

@erininthemorning.com has Louisiana listed as among the worst states for trans people, youths or adults. There are a handful of cities that have some protections, but on the whole, the state is in the worst part of the country for people like me. Also worried about my queer interracial marriage.
A screenshot from the Erin In The Morning blog showing which states are considered the worst for trans people. The text reads -

“The Worst States (AL, AR, IA, ID, IN, LA, MS, OH, OK, ND, SD, TN, UT, WV, WY): These states have passed deeply troubling legislation targeting transgender adults in extremely harmful new ways. Utah has a bathroom ban for transgender adults. Alabama has also passed a Don’t Say Gay bill that includes a bathroom ban on college campuses. Many states, including Louisiana, Mississippi, Oklahoma, and Tennessee, and others listed in this category have gone so far as to legislatively erase transgender people, effectively removing any legal rights associated with their gender identities. Other states, such as North Dakota, Oklahoma, and Tennessee, prohibit any changes to birth certificates, forcing trans people to out themselves when showing their documents. These states also could start targeting adult gender affirming care - Florida has already done so, banning 80% of such care. Idaho has an extreme ban on state funds for gender affirming care.”Erin In The Morning’s Anti-Trans Legal Risk Assessment Map showing that a majority of the states in the US are either already legally unsafe for trans people or are projected to be within the next two years. Safe states are WA, OR, CA, NV, AZ, NM, CO, MN, WI, IL, MI, and most of New England.

But there are some problems with that. First, Q would not want to live here. Second, I love living in SF and leaving there would likely price us out of ever being able to live there again. But the biggest issue is that the state is a shit place for trans folks to live.
A photo of Jessica sitting at a table, from the chest up. She is wearing a low cut flowery dress, clearly meant to show off her breasts. Her Zelda tattoo is visible. She has a kind of silly look on her face as she bites in. She is wearing a yellow shirt with some intricate patterns on it. There is a world in which I could see myself moving to New Orleans full time. Get a local job that covers rent and health care and leaves me with enough time to just play and listen to music. Less time on computers, more time practicing. I’d have to get used to the humidity, but it’s doable.
A photo of Jessica on her phone on a street in the French Quarter. She is wearing jeans with ripped knees, a black tank top, and has a blue/white flannel tied around her waist. There is a Spanish-architecture style house in the near background, with fluffy white clouds catching the beginning of the sunset in an otherwise blue sky in the far background.A photo of a “one way” road sign that has two stickers with the letter “g” added, so that the sign reads “gone gay”.A close up photo of a snare drum and drumsticks being held by Jessica. The background is blurry, but you can make out part of a bass drum, and there are two people holding brass instruments in the shot, along with someone holding an accordion that is mostly cropped out.A photo of the back top half of the steamboat City of New Orleans. for those of you that don't know who this is -
Richard Hanania (born August 28, 1985) is an American political scientist and right-wing online personality. He is the founder and president of the think tank Center for the Study of Partisanship and Ideology (CSPI). He has written for The Washington Post, The New York Times, The Atlantic, and The Economist. He wrote The Origins of Woke and publishes his newsletter on Substack.
Between 2008 and the early 2010s, Hanania wrote for alt-right and white supremacist publications under the pseudonym Richard Hoste. He acknowledged and disavowed his writing under the pseudonym when it was reported in 2023. At the time, journalists stated that Hanania had continued to make racist statements under his own name.
Hanania was a contributor to Project 2025 regarding diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) practices. His advocacy against DEI has been influential among Republican and conservative policy-makers in the United States, and Vox called him "the man whose tweets helped kill DEI". He has since become critical of the second Trump administration and the MAGA movement.

“Untrained”
… Ross worked for ICE, but one suspected he had some kind of involvement with the military because they saw him wearing fatigue pants.

Deployed to Iraq as a member of the Indiana National Guard from November 2004 to November 2005, Specialist Ross of the 138th Signal Battalion earned the Army Commendation Medal, the Army Good Conduct Medal, the Global War on Terrorism Medal and the Iraq Campaign Medal among others, according to the guard.

During his time in Iraq, Ross was a machine gunner on a combat logistical patrol team, court documents show.

After he returned home, Ross joined the U.S.
Border Patrol in El Paso, Texas, in 2007 and worked for the agency until 2015 as a field intelligence agent who gathered and analyzed information on drug cartels and human traffickers.

That year, Ross joined ICE as a deportation officer based in Minnesota whose job, he testified in a case recently, was to identify and arrest "higher value targets."

Ross testified that he was also a member of the FBI's Joint Terrorism Task Force as well as a firearms instructor…

I cut my family off a year ago, after Q and I went to Michigan for thanksgiving and spent two days at my mom’s house, where she questioned every decision I was making and made Q cry because “she treats you like you’re a child” and “she doesn’t respect your decisions”.
A screenshot of a conversation in iMessage.

My brother, Craig -
We all wish you were at thanksgiving.
Anything you think different is just you.
We all miss you

Me - I don't plan to see any of you ever again.

Craig - Well that's sad
I dont want to argue or any of that. I miss you. The girls all miss you. We love you no matter what you think.! hope you change your mind

Me - Yeah, I felt very loved seeing that giant flag on Alexis's house last year. I felt very loved hearing from my mother that "politics don't matter" and she's
"just worried about me" even though the political bullshit that you all ignore or even support is the most dangerous thing in the world for me and my wife.

Me - I want nothing to do with this family. It isn't sad to me. I no longer wish to spend emotional effort on any of you anymore. I tried for years, and the best I got was dealing with being misgendered and questioned on the choices I make for years, despite my increasing happiness and success.

Me - Best of luck to you all in the future.

Ann Arbor (and @aadl.org) mentioned!
A picture of a page from the book “Mood Machine” by Liz Pelly-

Ann Arbor Listrict Library was another of the hirst libraries to offer local streaming music-it has hosted a digital music collection since 2002, The concept of libraries providing free access to digital music downloads, or what some called "down-loans," was being explored in other countries
in the early 2000s, as well. For example, Danish libraries in Copenhagen and Frederiksberg began offering legal, digital music files to patrons as early as November 2002, through a program called "Nermusik."
The Ann Arbor library began licensing Local music for streaming starting in 2010, including a partnership with electronic label Ghostly International.
According to Eli Neiburger, the library's deputy director, building the library's own streaming and mp3 downloads infrastructure directly into its website has been an important decision. A lot of the local music material— referred to as the Ann Arbor Music & Performance Server (AAMPS)-is stored in the library's own data center, in its basement.
"It's really not that
hard to serve an mp3 or other music file," he told me.
While many libraries turn to outside tech vendors to help run digital offerings, Neiburger fels strongly about the library controlling its own digi-cal infrastructure—an ethos that extends beyond just music streaming- and iths to do with how commercial and streamlined the internet has become over the past two decades. "The early days of the web were ones where there was a lot more variety and a lot more opportunity, he went on. you ve seen so much consolidation over the years, public libraries are one of the few forces resisting that.

My old scooter, which is my primary vehicle, needed enough work that it made more sense to trade it in and upgrade to a 2025 model. Now it’s a much closer match to Little Blue, which Q rides, and I can cruise at 75. Not that I want to, but extra power is extra safety with how much I’m on freeways.
Both photos are of Jessica sitting on a large blue Vespa that is facing towards the camera. To the left is a second, smaller blue Vespa that is almost the same color. Jessica is wearing a black puffy coat, jeans, and teal shoes. In the first picture, she is smiling. In the second, she is making a funny face and holding up peace signs with both hands. In the background is an elevated sidewalk that goes uphill with apartment buildings next to it.

As I was reading this, the classic “how many citizens could even pass the test” thought came into my mind, but then when I saw that they’re looking for a “true attachment to the constitution” I laughed so hard that I died
She said the naturalization process could also become more uncertain, because it's unclear what standards immigration officers will use to assess "good moral character."

Speaking in Washington last month, USCIS Director Joseph Edlow said that the current test is "just too easy" because some questions require simple answers, like naming the governor of an applicant's home state, or two federal holidays.

"We need to know more," Edlow said. "Especially if we're going to really understand whether someone has a true attachment to the Constitution as required by the statute."
