John-Peter Trask @jpvtrask.bsky.social · 29/09/2026I would like to know too. I cover some Yoruba myths in the class I teach and I love when there are major movie and game releases that I can relate class content to. But I don’t want to encourage students to see an adaptation the author hates. 110

John-Peter Trask @jpvtrask.bsky.social · 19/09/2026I’m a bit confused, Houyi kills 9 of the 10 suns, and (in some versions) later meets Chang’e and they get married. Later, Chang’e swallows a pill that makes her immortal and she floats up to the moon and becomes its goddess. What happens with the other 11 moons? Does she swap moons every 28 days? 000
John-Peter Trask @jpvtrask.bsky.social · 16/09/2026Yeah! He looked visibly defeated and he clearly realized how that reflected on him and his part, but it only shut him up for about 20 minutes. 110
John-Peter Trask @jpvtrask.bsky.social · 16/09/2026Way back in 2001 I worked retail and had a Republican co-worker. We mostly gave each other shit playfully. One day we were debating something and in a Darth Vader voice he said “you don’t know the power of the dark side!” I said “at least we both agree that your side is the evil one!” 130
John-Peter Trask @jpvtrask.bsky.social · 15/09/2026I know the sleeping bag kill in VII and the liquid nitrogen kill in X will get plenty of votes. So I'll go with the guy who gets the machete to the face and then his wheel chair is sent careening down the stairs. 100
John-Peter Trask @jpvtrask.bsky.social · 15/09/2026Not a fan of this one. The Jason costume looks like something they got at Spirit Halloween. The swapping bodies thing is a kind of interesting way to explain his different looks, but it's negated completely by the Necronomicon, which is a much better way to explain how he keeps coming back. 120
John-Peter Trask @jpvtrask.bsky.social · 14/09/2026There are several people talking about this. I searched for it on streaming and have yet to find it. Can you suggest a site where I can watch it? 120

John-Peter Trask @jpvtrask.bsky.social · 09/09/2026And the same people who are so quick to call people who need disability freeloaders have zero cognitive dissonance when they or someone they love suddenly needs it, or when they use a social program because they “deserve it” more than others. 000
John-Peter Trask @jpvtrask.bsky.social · 03/09/2026Disclosure Day: 50 elite agents arrive at a farm house. The guy they're hunting is in a field behind them. They were told this but no one looks. As the completely visible guy rushes toward a car his clomping feet and heavy breathing are comically audible, and I realized the movie is comically bad. 110
John-Peter Trask @jpvtrask.bsky.social · 03/09/2026I was going to ask if this "show" was based on the campfire story, and now that I see that it is, I'm still not curious enough to seek it out. 010
John-Peter Trask @jpvtrask.bsky.social · 03/09/2026It's because in some versions he was born without bones. His parents (the first land dwelling kami) named him Hiruko (leech child) and cast him into the sea because they were ashamed of him. Dude had to will his bones into existence but they didn't all set right so he still has some mobility issues. 030

John-Peter Trask @jpvtrask.bsky.social · 03/09/2026That is the most succinct way to explain it, and it's 100% correct. 000
John-Peter Trask @jpvtrask.bsky.social · 02/09/2026Unfortunately, that's not how blue moons work. A more likely reason is that the moon reached its 100% full state in the middle of the day after his first transformation, and was still full enough to trigger a transformation that evening. 000

John-Peter Trask @jpvtrask.bsky.social · 28/08/2026I don’t know if this is a popular opinion or not, but learning the xenomorph’s origin in his last 2 movies saps so much of the cosmic horror out of it. It’s much scarier to think that this thing evolved rather than it being engineered. I can’t imagine he has anything worthwhile to add to the series. 020
John-Peter Trask @jpvtrask.bsky.social · 20/08/2026What pisses me off most about the debt is when a progressive politician says that they want to enact a social program that would benefit everyone, these assholes will say, “how are you going to pay for that?” The correct response is “Shut up clown, we’re $40T in debt, we don’t PAY for anything!” 010
John-Peter Trask @jpvtrask.bsky.social · 17/08/2026I agree. It's possible to excuse 1 or 2 dumb decisions and chalk them up to the fact that it's an unknown and life or death situation. Any more than that and I start to actively root against the protagonist. The heroine in Dolly made about a dozen bad decisions. 110
John-Peter Trask @jpvtrask.bsky.social · 13/08/2026Still waiting for that promised 4k/Blu-ray release of this. 000
John-Peter Trask @jpvtrask.bsky.social · 12/08/2026I have no major problems with the comics or the movies. It’s the “it’s not real, that’s why” defense that I take issue with. If the defense for plot holes, illogical character behavior, or too many contrivances is “it’s not real, so shut up and enjoy it,” then one can use that to defend anything. 000
John-Peter Trask @jpvtrask.bsky.social · 12/08/2026Folks like this can be obnoxious and the listed criticisms are tired & weak, but I think the “it’s not real, that’s why” defense is reductive & lazy. It can be an excuse for any problem in a story. Good fiction must follow its own established rules & logic if it wants to keep its audience invested. 100

John-Peter Trask @jpvtrask.bsky.social · 02/06/2026I like this idea, because you could explain away a recasting of Freddy and expand his powers (if you wanted) by having the creepypasta series make a few little changes about him. It's a good way to bring him back. 110
John-Peter Trask @jpvtrask.bsky.social · 29/05/2026If you like violent movies with a heaping side of comedy, this movie is so much fun. The plot: roommates who are aspiring actresses beat the living shit out of each other. It's just over an hour in length, is streaming on Tubi, and is definitely worth your time. 020
John-Peter Trask @jpvtrask.bsky.social · 29/05/2026I just saw it and liked it. At the risk of sounding like a pretentious dickwad, it’s a movie that requires attention and the ability to recognize themes, patterns, & subtext. It’s an A24 film, it doesn’t hold hands. Anyone saying it had no plot lacks the attention span or media literacy to get it. 030
