There's an easy way out - Pope Leo XIII issued a decree in 1900 that anyone who discussed, wrote about, or commented on Jesus' Foreskin would face automatic excommunication.

The earth one is the main one in there anyway - although there are a fun few other ones. Peter Kenny is amazing doing those audiobooks!

Yeah, I did think of the State of the Art as well which sets up the whole “should we interfere with Earth” thread. Banks’ ability to weave a compelling story around things not happening (or things that didn’t need to happen) is remarkable really. It makes them feel incredibly believable!

A few of the Culture novels really manage to weave in lots of paperwork. Excession (my favourite) has pages of (effectively) emails between Minds politicking while The Hydrogen Sonata is a wonderful book focusing on delivering (or not) a diplomatic apology. The audiobooks are superb as well.

The “I can’t believe…” “advert” was a glorious bit, lovely work and a great podcast as always.

The McLaren strategy peeps certainly did.

Somewhat surprisingly the mushroom risotto on the @lner.co.uk East Coast menu is better than the majority of restaurant risotto I’ve had in the past. Genuinely quite impressed.

I'm not too bothered about Sprints in general either way but the lack of practice time here with the new surface seemed to make it much more formulaic - no one really seemed able to do anything different because they didn't have the data to see if it could work.

There are endless frames in #Severance that could be hung as artwork but Gwendoline Christie holding Emile is going to be burned into my memory.

I do miss The Last Post but still can’t believe doing a daily podcast and keeping that quality didn’t break you (even when it dropped the weekends!).

Still two more episodes to go in this season thankfully.

Wouldn’t you think that at some point a modicum of self awareness would kick in and you’d realise that if private schools are *required* for good music teaching or SEND provision, maybe that’s what you should be upset about?

jprelph.bsky.social @jprelph.bsky.social · 06/03/2025

Still in there for me. Have you got a Focus mode turned on? They can change how the display works (eg my sleep one turns the display off).

Trust this government to manage to bury *good* news while everyone is distracted by the US/Ukraine debacle. Ditching leasehold, miscarriage leave rights and new sick leave rights seem positive, well thought out and uncontroversial. You’d think they might want more people to notice.

I wrote a dissertation on Commonhold at Uni while it was being proposed back in ~2000 - no interest from the industry at all since. Love the plan to ban leaseholds but I expect plenty of interested parties will get stories in the Mail/Telegraph as to why it's either unworkable or (somehow) woke 😂

The latest episode of #Severance has been running through my mind for the past 24 hours. Beautiful and horrifying and hard to stop thinking about.

Pit Stops aren't going to fix this. It's become the one Grand Prix throughout the year that I really don't mind missing. If they're going to keep it the change should be much more dramatic - get them in some small/low aero spec cars that can actually race around there.

Brilliant stuff - have really enjoyed the series. Although it does mean I’m now hearing your voice on Fish, Page 94 and now The Naked Week - I’m starting to get the AHM Tetris Effect.

I've wondered a few times if there's something that could be taken from liturgy as well - en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Liturgy... - allow some millionaires/billionaires more direct ownerships of some "great works". A bit of peer pressure for which of them builds the greatest hospital or school.

It's really worth it. First few episodes are slower than many modern series but set the scene well. By the last two episodes it felt like I was holding my breath for the entire running time - the tension is astonishing and the cast phenomenal.

I’ll still be cheering for McLaren and Lando at the weekend but blimey George has gone up in my estimations a lot after this. About time someone called out Max.

Professional Masterchef is better because most of the time he’s not there - Marcus and Monica are significantly more watchable (as was Anna Haugh when she stepped in).

Laser Mining feels very calming as a bit of a change of pace. Podcast on and wind my way between the rocks for an hour 🪨

I outfitted mine as a laser miner (5x pre-engineered smalls plus a medium). Probably close to a Python in efficiency but more fun to fly, slightly higher cargo capacity and better SCO integration.

Rupert Grint just lost a tax tribunal case, and owes about £1.7m. Because of the Beatles. Quick thread:

The overlap between “FinOps” and “Common Sense” is larger than a lot of organisations would like to admit.

Ha, never needed to move my wrist much with it - just rested my fingers on it and could shuffle it between fingers with very little arm/wrist effort. Almost more like a trackball in some ways. I found it really comfy.

One thing I did wonder about this is if there is a thought that this disincentivises businesses to employ lots of part time workers in sub-£9k roles as there isn’t the NI advantage. Consolidating some roles into higher paid roles seems more sustainable with some politcal advantages.

If anything addressing the tax benefit of farms surely makes farmland less attractive to be bought up by large estates using it to avoid tax and makes it easier for small tenant farmers to actually get on the ladder. 2/2

000

jprelph.bsky.social @jprelph.bsky.social · 19/11/2024

I think the Lib Dems have misjudged things on farm IHT. It seems pretty reasonable in targeting the larger estates (~£3m+ in many cases) and I just don’t buy the counter arguments. If food security or small farm viability are at issue - address those issues with appropriate subsidies 1/2
