The book banning effort in the U.S. seems silly when you see things like this, but it is a dangerous trend of people trying to limit what you can read and what information you can access. Make yourself aware of what is happening. Via @everylibrary.bsky.social action.everylibrary.org/bannedpets

That Esquire subscription pays off again as I track down Sam Shepard's one-act play, "True Dylan," depicting a chat with Bob Dylan. It's a kinda sorta accurate depiction of what went down in August 1986. jpkenyon.substack.com/p/take-five-...
An illustration of Sam Shepard and Bob Dylan sitting down, leaning against opposite ends of a crashed car. Shepard is holding a can of beer, while Dylan cradles an acoustic guitar.

So what happens if/when we finally turn our state blue? Will the Buc-ees about to open here pull up stakes? And will that be our sign of positive change?

Was happy to let the discourse fade out, but this merits a response. I clearly did not say this. I basically said if campaigning with Cheney was enough to lose your vote, you engaged in mental gymnastics I cannot fathom. Trump is worse on every possible level. Failing to vote helped that to happen.

Awful responses here from people who seem to think voters were so put off by Harris campaigning with Cheney they were willing to sit it out and usher in the worst person in the world. That is not on her; that’s on them.

Sorry, I didn't see this reply when you sent it, but came across it now. ICPL has NoveList+, but I can't see how to search by translator. The number of search filters is dizzying, however, so I'm sure it's buried in there somewhere.

Fact: Thousands of Iowan parents manage their child’s library accounts today. Fact: Minors have 4th Amendment Rights that librarians are responsible to honor by both Iowa Code & professional ethics. Fact: Compelling the government to monitor & report (regardless of the Iowan’s age) is not legal.

There is no downside to Jeffries and Schumer taking a stand on this, and it might be their last chance to do so. If Trump/Miller/Vance learn Dems will vote to approve a state-funded terroristic force that attacks blue cities and states despite the chance to do otherwise, what could stop them?

Two things: Surprised that so many non-starters would bail given that someone has to play and why not them? Related: a kid can test the waters and still come back without penalty, right? So it's possible some of them just want to see if anyone expresses interest and if not, they can suit up in '26.

I use AM in two ways. The first is to listen to everything I've downloaded to the phone from my own collection, and the second is to stream things. I don't mingle these and thus can't build online playlists or save an album for later streaming because Apple will mess with my library if I do.

🧵 In 2025, book censorship in the United States is rampant and common. Never before in the life of any living American have so many books been systematically removed from school libraries across the country.
Stack of books on a table with titles redacted by black bars. Headline reads: "The Normalization of Book Banning: What's Happening. What Can Be Done." PEN America logo appears at bottom.
