When in town, I usually stay near The Embarcadero and Steuart, so if it’s a nice day I’ll take the F out and back to see how everything has changed since last visit. It’s fun. Probably less trips now as conferences are moving to other cities, and I just got my senior Clipper card too 😂

Having owned two Citroëns, I would love for them to come back to the States, but I’m also realistic and not holding my breath.

On the iPhone app, pick the person icon at the bottom, select the “Hello x” pulldown (x is your name) and it’s a button at the bottom of the dialog box. Pick that and be underwhelmed. Mine says I buy a lot of dog stuff and coffee (for my wife, I rarely drink it.)

Bummer. Around here it’s La Bandetita (which are usually sold out a lot lately) or Mission, which I find are flimsy, and have poor quality control.

We sometimes make our own flour tortillas, but mostly end up buying La Banderita brand. We grow field corn most years to ultimately make masa for corn tortillas. The corn is currently drying.

Are they (dealer, etc.) sure the previous owner was removed from the app? I’ve seen that complaint on the net with a lot of used cars, not just Ford.

If I can top off a bit at work, it gives me an extra cushion getting home, especially as it gets cold, sometimes as much as the return trip uses. If I really need to, there are some high-speed chargers near my house but they are expensive. That's why I'm hurrying to finish the 240v update.

I'd do what I do when I drive to work, opportunistic charging. Because of the slow charging at home, I check to see if the "best" EVSE is open on campus and if it is, I park there and charge (it's about 20 minutes from my class). The ones closest to class are shared power, still better than nothing.

I go with ABC - Always Be Charging. I've been charging on 120v at home for years, but I'm finally finishing pulling the wires for my 240v EVSE.

We go from NH to MI for family and it’s about 800 miles. We do it in 13-ish hours with a couple of stops in the summer. When I’ve driven in the UK it’s shorter distances but everything just seems longer; e.g., speed reductions on the M roads or a roundabout every half mile in Wales :)

Pete Brady @jpeterbrady.bsky.social · 28/09/2026
I know many people think NH is the “deep south” of New England. We have our issues, but orange man did not win here in either 2016, 2020, or 2024. I’ve lived here almost 50 years and explaining NH politics could almost be a dissertation. :)

So if I did all the conversions correctly, that’s $11/gal (US), or exactly twice the price I saw for premium at the local station here (central NH). As an aside, I also use Road Trip to calculate my gas purchases.

Yesterday, I saw a Merc G550 with a Ferrari NY license plate surround and a vanity license plate with a Ferrari model number. Talk about mixed messages.

It’s a while ago, but no problems with the drivetrain. I will have to ask her what happened to the car; IIRC it was either rust or hit by another car. She currently has a Cruze hatchback.

Our carrier usually has one and they are excited for winter, as the rural route ones are AWD. Around here, I see the new ones as well as the Metris on the rural routes, RAM vans in the city (mostly the walking carriers) and a few LLVs.

In this part of NH, there’s still a fair amount I think because older and lower income. Electricity rates in NH are high as well; there are some rebate programs for conversions but the upfront costs are still high for lower income folks.

Pete Brady @jpeterbrady.bsky.social · 16/09/2026
A friend has a single-wide with a kerosene furnace (still common). They locked in a winter rate of $5/gal three weeks ago; the spot price yesterday? $6.50.

There well also be a lot of very cold people in New England this winter as a large number of homes use heating oil, basically diesel.

Ford did a good job selecting colors for the Mach-E; if only they’d stop removing some (I have a Grabber Yellow one). That blue, the molten magenta, and the green are bangers as well.

It turns out that all those lovely checks and balances we learned about in school were really just "gentlemen's agreements", and if you got people sufficiently evil/stupid/greedy in power, they roll over everything.

Probably simpler to find an engine from a Citroẽn SM or a Merak. You want the 3.0L one :)

I went from a 13 pro to a 17 pro, earlier than my usual refresh cycle as I guessed Apple would be raising prices. There’s nothing in an 18 I would need.

Not an XJ but my old base model WJ. It was the platonic ideal of an SUV for me. Rust finally got it (evidenced by the different hood) but the 4.0 went on to live in another Jeep. I loved that thing as you will love your XJ.

I recently went from a v5 to a v11. That will hold me for a good long while. Where I live in the US is an “all-party consent” state for recording. I wonder how this skirts that issue. I’ll have to do more reading.

I was getting the car serviced, saw it on TV. Went home after rather than work. I worked in the Towers in the 80s. My brother was just across the river in the USCG; the second plane flew over his ship. I was there the month before with the kids. I’ve not been back to that part of Manhattan since.
