Marinara is a sauce with tomatoes with olive oil and maybe onion or garlic. Gravy is the sauce from the Sunday dinner in which meats like ribs, pork chops, or beef roasts are stewed slowly in marinara. The sauce on pasta is the first course, the meats are the second course.
