One of the reasons we’re losing our democracy is that elite journalists feel no responsibility to prevent it from happening. They seem to think their role is simply to observe and comment on the new despotism.

Right-Wing USA -

here’s mine:
a screenshot of my comment, which reads as follows: “I oppose this rule vehemently. This is not about making government more efficient or making civil servants more responsive to the interest of the public.
It is about bringing public servants under the control of the executive and ensuring that they are more loyal to the president personally than to the people. This is a malign proposal that will reconstitute the federal bureaucracy as an instrument of the president's will - it will only serve to accelerate America's decline into authoritarianism and it must not be allowed to go into effect. This rule should be opposed by every citizen who desires the United States of America to remain a legitimate democratic republic with a government of the people, by the people, and for the people.”

New Yorker cartoon by Paul Noth: a herd of sheep grazing in a meadow. Two of the sheep are looking at a billboard that shows a wolf in a business suit and the slogan “I am going to eat you”. One sheep says to the other: “He tells it like it is.”
