Any eggsperts out there? Found two small eggs—roughly 2.4cm—near our pond in some underbrush. Tic tac shaped. No real nest, but well hidden. Pond has lots of turtles (including cooters, box turtles and chicken turtles). Also have black racers active in this part of the yard. Turtle? Snake? Other?

Two small eggs in some underbrush. Eggs are oblong, proportionally longer than most bird or chicken eggs. White color with a tinge of yellow, and sandy-colored speckles. Shells appear to have some texture to them, but it is difficult to discern whether it is shell texture or sand/dirt making the appearance of texture. Eggs are alone in a secluded patch of vegetation, but not in a well defined nest.

Sometimes, motorsports gets it. SCCA Solo Nats competitor is protested on Day 1 in a ladies class for being trans. Protest committee rules aggrieved party should get fucked into the sun. Day 2 the rest of class shows support for the protested party on way to her first run. She would go on to win.

A protest form from the Sports Car Club of America national autocross championships, alleging that a trans woman is not eligible to compete in ladies classes for [reasons]. Ruling of protest committee is that the protest has no basis and protesting party is an asshole.

Competitors (the not-asshole kind) in the SSC Ladies class at the SCCA Solo Nationals show support for their colleague who was protested for competing in a class she was not eligible for (spoiler alert: she totally was eligible).

Driving this thing at SCCA Solo Nationals and honestly couldn’t be more excited. Took a few shakedown runs today in soaking wet conditions and it’s already created a world-class memory.

A 1981 Chevrolet Camaro prepared to the SCCA’s C Prepared rules. It’s cooler than pretty much anything else you’ve ever seen.

7/end (4 now). L'il Ramius already had water & baby mix. Not particularly interested in either, but knows how to get them, that's good. Mom was a bit rough a couple times, but I'd seen new moms do it before, it's just how they keep they from bumbling everywhere. Now fully tucked under foster mom

A foster muscovy duck mom seems to be accepting a duckling that was rejected from another duck's clutch. Thursday duckling was the only egg that hatched in the original mom's nest and she wants nothing to do with th kid.

6/? She may reject the kid, too. And there's a frightfully high attrition rate for ducklings anyway, so the likelihood of seeing adulthood is low to begin with. I give him one chance in three. I guess we'll have to call him little Ramius if he makes it. Or she. Ramius is a solid girl name, too.

Foster mom Buckie seems to be accepting the li'l nipper at the moment. Even so, the kid has a massive uphill battle to adulthood. She's probably the kid's best chance, with some help from us humans, but letting her do most of the work so the kid knows it's still a duck. Our best ducks are the ones that know they are ducks, but also know some (not all) humans are super cool and can be played with and go for swims with and take naps with. but ultimately, you are a duck that likes certain humans, not a duck that was imprinted on humans. That gets MESSY,

Buckie the adult female has tucked the orphan duckling under her to help regulate its body temperature, which it can not do with just its down feathers.

4/? So I try another girl, Buckie, who is one of our toughest moms (I saw her go apeshit on a giant blue heron that tried to eat one of her kids once). Made up a box for her, complete with some down and some eggs and her own real baby. Seemed ambivalent at first, but the kid was definitely into it.

Orphaned duckling is placed with another foster mom, a 5y/o female who has hatched several clutches and is a tough broad and one of our most successful moms.

3/? So now I need to enlist a foster mom, because the kid can't regulate her temp until feathers start coming in. So I go get Millie, our youngest. She was curious, and gentle with the kid, but she may still be too young and nothing maternal really seemed to trigger with her.

1/? Some #muscovy #duck drama 4 your Thurs. We have 12 muscovies. Occasionally the girls nest in my workshop, and we take most of the eggs and eat them (because delish). Tonight as I was working on a project, I hear peeping. A single duckling, from a egg I guess we missed, on a high shelf with mom.
