It most affects 6’0” and 6’1” guys who now look like they lied to hit the magical number

Being 6’0” and married I find it very funny to kamikaze dudes by saying I’m 5’10” around single guys who are around my height trying to hit on short girls.

I just realized sixteen years later that the girl who Skype called me on my birthday my first year of college probably had a crush on me lmfao

Wittgenstein’s beetle in a box is a pretty succinct mechanism that works here

I made a poem about the number 3 that contains 9 lines, the hinge is stanza 3, no tercets, and both the first and last stanza have 3 separate meanings. And it’s about the burden of lineage. It’s so neat to spend like 12 hours and get only 9 lines out of it.

I think the thing I like most about poetry is playing with words, forms, and making layered sentences. It’s playing with words while still conveying an idea

I started writing poetry and it’s neat. I can write out of happiness instead of suffering now. Suffering is genuinely premium writing fuel so finding alternative fuel is a game changer for me.

One of the things I wasn't prepared for is that there isn't really songs for when your life is smooth sailing and fun. Media is almost always about transitions or ephemeral experiences. The usual way there's media about the joy of the mundane is if you smuggle in a life retrospective from old age.

My wife and I rarely speak English around our kid but today we were discussing him showering and he fucking replied in Spanish. He’s two. He’s learning English. Dear lord. The secret parent communication channel has been compromised.

I’m also not sure I like the argument it makes that people on social media are NPCs taking instructions from The Zuck. Jim with a 3rd grade reading level isn’t dunking on someone reading a grimoire because The Elites™️ told him to. Interesting but ultimately strange essay. Thanks for linking it.

Infinite Jest as a reference is a weird own goal here. It is THE performative status symbol of the 2000s to early 2010s and part of the “hipster” outfit specifically because its size and distinct cover communicated something. It’s not imposed from above, that shit was 100% naturally grown stereotype

It’s always funny to see “man X game sucks now it was awesome four years ago” because it’s like is the game worse or are you just getting older lol

Ah yeah. Worth noting that some jokers are stealthily powerful for econ. Like yeah rebate is powerful but gift card and chaos the clown are probably consistently stronger econ jokers!

Joy @joythedatanerd.bsky.social · 28/06/2026
The strategy for scoring depends on the deck but generally you wanna first get some simple +mult or chips jokers, then scale into xmult jokers. Fixing your deck via tarot and spectral cards is also really important, you wanna minimize the chance of getting bad draws at all.

Four rerolls by ante 8 is way too low, you need to build up your econ from earlier in the run. Source:

They are infinitely scalable since they’re vector graphics. You can zoom in or out arbitrarily because they’re defined via formulas rather than pixels

I just don’t like that the rhetoric used is toxic at its core, it’s morally compromised and pushes the community towards negativity. I like that the community generally is willing to try difficult things like rehabilitative justice! It’s beautiful, and I’d love more of that, less essential judgment
030
Joy @joythedatanerd.bsky.social · 20/06/2026
I agree! I really REALLY don’t like the guy, but him playing the game has both positives and negatives. We can’t really control what he does so it’s better to try and focus on the aspects we can control to get the most good out of it while minimizing the bad.

You should instead wonder why the oppressed often reach for the weapons of the oppressor. Mirroring the structure while changing the subjects doesn’t fundamentally change it. It’s because it’s the only structure that’s been modeled, and we can do better than just taking it up wholesale.

xQc playing Splatoon created a lot of think pieces (mostly on twitter) of whether it’s good he’s getting eyeballs on the community. Most of these posts are invoking language that treat xQc or his viewers as irredeemably evil.

Joy @joythedatanerd.bsky.social · 20/06/2026
Invoking safety as justifying any response is pure good-vs-evil dualism and is the favorite argument of evangelicals, Aux. Categorizing it as theoryposting when it’s legitimately bad strategy that acts as a flare gun for trolls and bigots is actively harmful through self-destructive behavior.

Joy @joythedatanerd.bsky.social · 20/06/2026
Taking the position of criticizing the rhetoric used dismisses concerns is a choice, for sure. Practically, though, the language used creates spite, which we’ve already seen start to play out. It’s both bad strategy and bad ethics.

Joy @joythedatanerd.bsky.social · 20/06/2026
This is a much weaker claim than the attack on my character of “looking for excuses to talk shit ab minorities on your public platform”, stand on business. There’s arguments to be made about the risk, most posts aren’t making them. They’re overwhelmingly essentialist at their core, instead.
100
Joy @joythedatanerd.bsky.social · 20/06/2026
You think it’s talking shit about minorities to point out that the arguments being used are mirroring the oppressive rhetoric of evangelical Christianity?

Joy @joythedatanerd.bsky.social · 20/06/2026
It’s very funny how a week later the xQc thing brought this out at full strength. Evangelical Christian arguments about essential evil lol

Don’t really see a lot of reasoning why xQc having eyes on the game is good but tldr views are money and money supports creators in the community. It has a risk of potentially being disruptive to Splatoon as a social group, but it’s got pretty sharp upsides for Splatoon as a competitive shooter

(Explain your @) Someone was banned in a community for “Negativity and Disrespect” so that was my handle for a week and I realized I don’t wanna be the type of person that takes on that handle even to mock the admins for their dumb decision so I turned it to “Joy” as the opposite and it stuck.

I’m tired of seeing perfect being the enemy of good online and it’s why I’ve been taking a break lately from social media because it’s bleak how there’s zero space for grace online. A problematic person is running a charity event? Fuck it, shut it down. Cancel it. Give me my good boy points.

Joy @joythedatanerd.bsky.social · 11/06/2026
At least religion ostensibly believes in confession, redemption, and absolution. It has a grace machinery next to the sin machinery and online morality essentially just took the sin machine, gave it a paint job, and ran it. You did the bad therefore you are evil at your core.
1170
Joy @joythedatanerd.bsky.social · 11/06/2026
Like man, this binary approach to morality where you just have a checklist for what’s good and bad is fundamentally incurious and does nothing but bring misery. The irony being many of these people are anti-religious while having all of the same values of religion albeit with a secular paint job.

Joy @joythedatanerd.bsky.social · 11/06/2026
Tangential rant: I have essentially one criticism of the lay person’s understanding of ethics and it’s that they’re all de Beauvoir’s serious man: aligning to externally defined value systems rigidly so they don’t have to evaluate moral positions. It’s lazy and dishonest while cosplaying virtue.

But it does open up the space of possibilities to make things better for people.
