Favorite First Time watches from September 2026.

Digger isn't getting great reviews but I freaking loved it. Takes one of the biggest swings I have seen in a movie in a long time and whether or not you like it hinges on whether or not that big swing works for you. It worked for me. If you have any interest at all, see it before things get spoiled.

Walking Dead and the assorted spinoffs. I stopped watching the original show not long after Andrew Lincoln left... and even then I thought it had already gone on far too long.

Watching Cheers... and wait... I know that voice... holy shit... its Batman.

Where are all the Trekkies tonight? They are showing Space Seed and Wrath of Khan together and the theater is barely half full.

I don't normally go in for the novelty popcorn buckets... but come on... how could I not?

They've gone out of there way to make it as bland as possible because any time they tried to actually say anything, the loudest part of the fan base cried about it being "woke", and for some reason that is the part Paramount listened to.

I feel like some trekkies watch Wrath of Khan with their eyes and ears closed. The number of "Kirk didn't know he had a son" takes I'm seeing are nuts.

I mean, I actually love many of the different verison of A Christmas Carol that I've seen. This is gonna be a hard no from me though. Also the tag line “Before he was Scrooge, he was Ebenezer" just makes no sense. That's just his full name...

Made the mistake of giving Alamo one more chance... and what do ya know, terrible experience. Not just the mobile ordering. There were projection issues and sound issues. At least they had the masking curtains aligned properly this time, I guess.

A couple new pieces from my 2026 collection. I probably should start making something other than mugs, but they are good practice.

I am of two minds on where they should go from here with Doctor Who: 1. Find some new young, talented writers who grew up watching the 2005-now era and give them the reigns. 2. Or... call J. Michael Straczynski.

Rick - Vulcan As A Mother F**ker 🖖 @jovialvulcan.bsky.social · 10/06/2026

Ncuti Gatwa is just such an amazing actor and I love the way he played the Doctor... it is a shame that his talent was not given its due.

000

Rick - Vulcan As A Mother F**ker 🖖 @jovialvulcan.bsky.social · 10/06/2026

I think Doctor Who just needs a soft reboot kind of like what they did in 2005. Just bring in a new Doctor, ignore the whole regenerating into Rose thing. Maybe add a throwaway line to kind of handwave it away. Then just tell new stories and stay away from heavy handed nostalgia.

Honestly, don't think I can ever forgive RTD for so perfectly casting The Rani... and then doing absolutely nothing interesting with the character.

So weird that with most franchises I enjoy (Star Trek, Star Wars, Doctor Who), I always say they need to try new things if they want to stay relevant and not just feed us nostalgia. With Mortal Kombat though, I'm like "Just give me the fucking tournament, stop try to reinvent the damn thing!"

So, Sheep Detectives is actually a really fun movie. Its funny and heartfelt and the mystery is actually pretty solid. Don't sleep on this one just because the concept seems silly.

My wife doesn't go to the movies often, but she loves Mortal Kombat. She also loves cozy British mysteries and talking animals. So, we'll be doing a double feature at @nitehawkcinema.bsky.social this weekend.

My Klingon Bloodwine Goblet inspired mug is finally finished. I need to refine the shape and make the handle better if I make another, but for a first try, I like it.

Time to decide what to watch for my 5000th movie on @letterboxd.social. For 4000 I watched In The Mood For Love, and that became one of my all time favorites.

Was watching the Star Trek Deep Space Nine episode Little Green Men recently and Quark is surprised that humans would willingly buy and use an addictive poison (tobacco)... my dude... you own a bar... selling an addictive poison is what you do.

This was an experiment to see how certain glazes would run together. It didn't turn out exactly as planned, but it was cool to see what would happen. Also, really like how the handle turned out on this one.

000

Rick - Vulcan As A Mother F**ker 🖖 @jovialvulcan.bsky.social · 14/04/2026

Added a handle, not exactly the shape I was going for. We'll see how it turns out once it is through both firings in a couple weeks.

Threw this last night. Was kind of going for a Klingon Wine Goblet type of shape. Didn't turn out exactly how I had planned, but I dig it.
