#ruinsOfCalaworm is a rework from an obscure early 90s German Dungeon Crawler called "Die Gemäuer von #Kalawaum". Think #roguelike, but earlier: no ranged, no builds, few stats, deceptively simple. Just You and then Dungeon, bumping into Witches and Eldritch Horrors. 👻🧹🪼 Release Date: August 28th!

And that is it! I see a lot of dialogue-writing in my future, specially to give each personality its own voice. But these mechanics should allow me to and the RNG-gods to create unique and interesting NPCs, that you as the player can interact with in a meaningful way! (9/9)

And finally, there's Persuasion and Deception. These are dice-rolls that might happen on some specific dialogue choices, usually in benefit of the player. However, failing such a roll will often lead to even worse consequences, so it's a risk/reward situation. (8/9)

You opinion will change from all of the basic stuff, such as completing quests, attacking or helping in battle, but also from some random dialogue that might appear when you talk to them, depending on your choices. Stardew Valley style! (7/9)

The opinion can swing quickly based on your recent actions, but only a few things can swing their stance. For example, you might annoy an NPC into oblivion, reaching an opinion of -100, but they won't become your Enemy unless you perform a truly horrendous act. (5/9)

Then, there's NPC relationships. NPCs have an "Opinion", a score from -100 to 100, of any other NPC, including the player. Derived from this opinion, is their "Stance", which is a category of what they think about you, such as Rival, Friend, or Acquaintance. (4/9)

For example, an NPC with the "Eloquent" trait will speak in a clearer and more polite way than a "Vulgar" NPC. The same applies to the player: some options in dialogue will only become available if you have a specific personality trait, as seen in the second screenshot. (2/9)

Haven't done a #ScreenShotSaturday in a while, so here's what I've been cooking. I'm overhauling the travel system for my RPG to allow the exploration of the world, instead of revealing the whole map and allowing fast travel between discovered points, similar to Skyrim. I think it's a big upgrade!

I'm adding roads across the worlds of Kathay, and in the process trying to make the forests feel denser. For that, I increased the density of trees and added new rocks and bushes. This path cutting across the forest is starting to feel very nice! #indiedev #pixelart #gamedev
